Crashes when modeling

Post by Talik » 23 Aug 2023, 00:50

I've got this crash quite often when modleing. It happens suddenly. Do you know what is going on and hot to fix this?
It's said " doesn't support oApp.OneClickGetState"

.. sorry, wasn't able to reproduce your over-detailed steps ;)

And if I may, all you seem to post is just random XSI problems,
or any problem you can find would seem to do.

For me, XSI's main problem is that it's not used anywhere anymore.

And that people would forget what once was,
or would forget how much less problems we would have generally (relative to say Maya) to get to final results.
( otherwise .. XSI is definitely NOT "bug free" )

I don't know. It happens unpredictable. I did not find what tool makes it crash. But looks as I freeze mesh more often it crashes fewer.

Previously addons like quickInset quickPrimitive caused crashes and I deleted them and it crashes less often. But still crashes

You replied with my original inquiry about your "issue",
which I reworded (after your quick reply )
because I somehow don't feel that your being "genuine" (?)

But anyhoo ... personally haven't ever seen or come across that ...
( and it's not XSI that is notorious for "random crashes",
or having to reset your preferences every other day ;) )

I know that XSI is stabile but it crashes quite often in my case. I think that this happens because of the plugins I use. Same crashes happened on my old workstation.

well.. try resetting your preferences ...
( deleting your XSI user profile which would be recreated upon next launch )

As if we ever had to do that, and if it's at-all an actually real "problem" ;)

How to do that?
Will it cause a loss of customisations I did? (plugins hotkeys etc)

yes you will loose all preferences etc ...
being what anyone in production has to go through every time ( not in XSI )

Maybe .. I don't know .. maybe someone else might have an Idea why XSI crashes so much ?
( not that it's "immune" to crashing lol )

At least the MX roundish issue you pointed to, was an actual issue ..

.. so feel free to post random XSI issues ( if "real") I'm sure you could find some,
at least it makes some activity around here lol

otherwise .. thanks for adding the << ... in my case. >> after my reply ;)
( just to say that I haven't been "misquoting" )

Cheers !

I know that there is a bug with 2015 where it crashes if you have a render region open and you move inside the viewport. I think the most stable version is 2014 sp2. If anyone has that version to give me that would be cool. 9) I have the network license that only gives me 2015.

I was thinking about switching to earlier version too. Can I switch to 2014 version or earlier and keep all my scripts hotkeys?

Hum ... haven't experienced that,
( while having moved around -alot- with the RenderRegion active )
but maybe in certain conditions (?)

But in general, for me it just feels "the same" as ever,
or when it would crash, it would be when doing something specific,
(or when pushing things too far)
and would then -not- crash, if -not- doing whatever made it crash.
( finding alternate ways to get to end results, if something particular made it unstable,
while saving very-very often lol )

But unlike Maya, at least it wouldn't crash by doing things like changing current frame, adding a light, opening a material node editor or the UV editor ( or just by looking at it funny lol )

On the other hand, Maya wasn't "at risk" of getting EOL-ed,
( except maybe when itself was bought a year before Softimage )
so in that sense, XSI was even VERY prone to eventually "crash",
historically having been considered as a "threat" or as "competition" to "industry standards",

Most scripts can work with earlier versions, also can -some- addons (not all)
( yet addons from earlier versions, will almost always work in later versions .... or there would be NO NEED to recomple plugin dlls ... for every new app version increment,
so generally would even older or un-constantly-maintained stuff ... uhm ... still work ! )
