Hello everyone
Maybe someone knows a quick way how to realize transparency in textures?
I have textures where certain area must remain invisible.
I have a separate channel for that.
The problem is that when I use this channel to control the transparency of a material, rendering time becomes far too big.
Is there perhaps a faster possibility?

Hi
What render engine are you using?
What render engine are you using?
Re: Fast opasity
i am of course the more ignorant user in softimage of this forum,
i thought you had to use a layer and connect it to the alpha channel
transparency is less time consuming than refraction indexes.

Re: Fast opasity
Ok, for me its just to plug an alfa image into transparency. Are you doing that? what file type are you using? png should do the job and shouldnt have big impact on render times... can you send a capture of your rendertree and render options? what cpu are you using?

hi nicole
somehow I do not understand exactly what you mean.
Could you explain your idea in more detail?
I render with a 16GB ram i7 2600k under Softimage 2010 (Mental Ray).
However, I have seen significant differences with activated transparencies on different systems.
Especially partial transparency needs noticeably more time.
I am not concerned here with large-scale transparency effects, but only to "cut" shapes over textures.
The shader is simple.

Re: Fast opasity
hello. yes : you should use the "cutout opacity" node as in this example.

Hi nicole
Thanks for the answer. Unfortunately, I have already tried this variant. The render times remain in places still much higher.
