Already with the first (free) Momentum and implosia 1.0, had features you still coulnd't find with such a level of easy granular custom control over sims (also because of ICE)

And this recent free release brings yet quite a bit more, such as dynamic runtime fracturing, (and a big 'etc..' )

Here is a momentum 3 clip, (by Helge) it's 20 min (yet very condensed) and goes though all sample scenes.

The rolling softbody cubes made me giggle :p
(among other things that continues to make my jaw drop =p~ )

Also the Mom3 info page,
http://exocortex.com/products/momentum

Mom4 info page is now a dedicated download page,
http://shop.exocortex.com/products/momentum-4

But Mom4 also brought a number of things ;
Core Momentum 4 Improvements:

- Improved speed of clusters creation\deletion
- Alembic I\O instead of old plot system
- Fixed multiple environment creation each time a scene has been opened
- Fixed particle rigid body initialization after frame 1
- Simulation doesn't stop even with minimized XSI window
- MOM ICE nodes honor the Global Momentum properties mute state
- The "mute" param is now presented in the main MOM PPG
- Added simulation speed control in the main MOM PPG
- Added explicit maximum number of Rigidbodies in scene
- Fixed collision issues between GImpacts and softbodies
- Added an experimental collision shape mode - tetrahedron
decomposition from each triangle - very stable since it is a native
bullet shape. See for example the sample scene 75_StableChain ( used
only !3! sub-steps )
ImplosiaFX 4 Improvements:

- Rewritten from the ground up as result has a huge improvements in GUI
- Added operator-based fracturing as well as the boolean operator
- Extended ICE nodes set to bring more flexible workflow
- Speed increased about 2x times while memory consumption is half of original
- Fixed memory leaks
- Fixed most of crashes, now it just throws an error message
- Fixed an awful execution time on some of extremely hi-poly meshes
- Added slicer feature to define arbitrary regions on geometry to be fractured
- Added painting fracture masks by WM or by using B\W textures as well
as user-defined scalar per-point attribute
- Added baking of ICE generated geometry into the regular mesh with
regular clusters

However, there are some minor restrictions if using 2012xsi instead of
2013 due to SDK bugs ( related only to ICE parts )

- Need to put materials list manually, at the very end of ICEtree (
bug with inability to output strings array in custom nodes )
- Islands2Array node doesn't work under 2012 ( bug with inability to
output customData array in custom nodes )
- Continuous fracture compound requires the additional executable
outport to be connected to the main ICEtree
- Slicer node doesn't work under 2012 similar to the "Islands2Array",
however, it is very easy to build it feature from two boolean
compounds ( see the examples )
Of course it goes without saying, a big thanks to Oleg, Helge, and Ben!! :-o

Hi there, this is really very cool of you guys, thank you very much! Though with two computers and on version 2014 sp2 and 2015, I dont get it to work correctly. Some of the sample scenes look correct but most have some bugs here. Sometimes it simulates correct the first time I hit play and from then on it's totally wrong. Some scenes just always give incorrect results or are not working at all. Or objects are moving very quickly like flickeringly fast but the simulation stays intact, this looks like more of a display error. Anybody having the same issues and more importantly - a solution :) Do I need some extra stuff installed? I'm on Windows 7.

Cheers Lukas

For quick "reproduction" of the problems you're facing: which sample scenes do not function correctly? :-?

Oh, of course. Here are some screenshots of scenes that are not working and what is not working:
Image
I made this till Demoscene 20 for now. If it helps, I could also make screenshots for the prolems of the other ones.

By the way, I get the info message:
# INFO : 4034 - Loaded scene was created with build number: 8.0.249.0 - compatibility version: 801
But this also shows up in scenes, that are working.

Thanks, Lukas

HEy Lukas!

I noticed that behavior also in the past. I guess, this problem was pretty the "normal" behavior and the reason, momentum never made it that far unfortunately. Sometime jumping back to the first frames helped a little on corrupted simulation..but it was quite unpredictable..no help, I know :(

cheers,
oli

Hey Oli, thanks for the info - it helps at least to know, that it doesn't make sense trying to find a fix, installing any drivers or something :)

Cheers, Lukas

good question. Also; I just installed this ( I know I am slow but hadnt been using XSI for many years.) I notice I cant do a viewport capture of the animation as it crashes soft. However I can play it in the view port no problem and looks beautiful.

I am trying to use that alembic plugin to cache it before capture...

Thanks a lot kookoo!! I was going throug some yesterday and was very cool. Also was able to viewport capture after cache in alembic. Was even able to send the file to maya. Very cool.
