SI2011 (suspected) Bug thread

Post by Hirazi Blue » 09 Apr 2010, 11:45

Okay, let's open a thread about (suspected) SI2011 bugs...

This cost me an hour to figure out, but it seems "Load Last Sequence at Startup" for some reason keeps on crashing my SI2011 at startup each and every time...

And another thing: the whole error reporting mechanism is nice, but there seems to be no option to send the error report manually from the data gathered by said mechanism. On my, let me state this again, OFFLINE workstation, I can even press "send", which opens a window telling me the message was successfully send and thanking me for participating... 8-}
If that's the basic functionality, I doubt if it will do us much good...

Vista64 BTW

Things I've seen reported (can't confirm though):

- The limitations of the new implicit bone object has been logged as a "bug" see here:

- Some people are experiencing something strange with infinite lights here:

- Booleans acting wierd?

I haven't checked the Booleans yet,
but data transfer from newer to older versions of Softimage always was impossible\tricky... :(

In the render tree, when I use a color_sampler node in 2011, the appended clip node and image source are not created. Seems like a bug to me since it works fine in 2010 and the documentation does not indicate another workflow.

Seems to be a documentation bug :D
The workflow I suggested in the other thread does however work:
Hirazi Blue wrote:(...) I would think you'd have to create a new lightmap "by hand" using the "User Tools > Create SSS Lightmap" command... ;)

Oh yes I have to try that :) But then i moved back to 2010 for that. I gonna try it to today, since that seems to be the way to go then.

Thanks Hirazi!

I'll bump this, in the probably idle hope someone can tell me, what could be wrong. I suspect it's not reproducible, otherwise someone would have stepped forward by now and I can't send my "CER" to Support, as I don't have a mail address to do so manually...

Reinstalling twice didn't work & I was (and am) on Vista 64... :-

edit: okay, I got so annoyed with this admittedly very minor problem,
that I wrote myself a little custom command to achieve
a "Load Last Sequence at Startup" functionality. It works, so

Real small thing. Seems like if you have the render region open, SI doesn't constantly save that render as the thumbnail for the current scene anymore. Not a big deal, but just something I've noticed on a few scenes.

using an ice attribute value as an image sequence's time source does work in the viewport, but not in rendering...(SI2011 takes the source time for rendering)

Motion Blur 2D is not working with ICE Instances.

Motion Vector pass/channel as well as custom prepared shader (via vector_state) is not working either.

Is this in SI2011 or in SI2011 SP1?

Both i guess... lemme check..

Yup, Both :)

You can check it in ICE sample scene, the one with walk cycles.

Normal, rendered motion blur works.. i'm pretty sure that eariler versions of xsi also have this bug. This is quit annoying especially when You're rendering an entire army of instances :)

I had to do that shot with motion blur, 'cause it was pretty dynamic visually: Camera flying through a thousands of soldiers on horses that were running from left to right.. Tons of opacity maps etc. If it was working i could go away with using only 2d motion blur, which i believe would be about 10-20 minutes/frame at most.. Sadly i ended up rendering it with standard 3d motion blur in about 1-2hours/frame.

Oh! And Shadow Maps aren't working with them as well :) Just remembered i had to render raytraced shadows separately.. which also took a ton of time.. ;)

Cheers!
