Hi,
I am trying to export a model with Hairs on it, as stand-in, to use as instance with ICE particles.
But mental ray crashes and fails to export. If I remove the hairs, it does the export but I want the hairs too. So, is it possible to export hair as stand-in?
Any help would be much appreciated.

Re: How to export Furry or Hairy, Stand-in objects
I had to reduce the amount of hairs from 6500 to around 3000 before I could export those hairs. Otherwise either mental ray or both Softimage and MR would crash.
I am on Softimage 2015 SP1 seems like it has unresolved bugs that needs reporting

Hi, thanks for the update,
I found this from here: Mental Ray geometry cache
But at least it's a sing that it can or should work with lots of hairs/geo, maybe it's version related?

Which is related but doesn't necessarily present any problem, or solution (sorry)Tekano wrote:Hi Origin,

Hey! I got it working.
I think I got the crashes because I had the same material on all the different hairs in the scene. I applied different materials on all the different sets of hair and it's exporting without any crash now
