Unofficial Softimage user voice

Post by Daniel Brassard » 04 Oct 2013, 18:13

As seen on the mailing list:
Gregory Ducatel

Hi Guys,

In order to centralise ideas, features... In one place I have opened an unofficial Softimage user voice.

https://softimage.uservoice.com/

Please fell free to add any ideas, features or improvements that pop
in your mind I will be glad to spam Autodesk using this platform.

Cheers,

Greg

The "unofficial" part of the endeavor makes this seem quite futile to me. Without some "official" commitment by AD to at least ''look at it", this is no better or worse than the occasional wish-list thread (albeit a structured one) that still pops up once in a while.

Generally this threads are more about complains than anything else. If this new site stays focused, we can push it to Bellsey and other Softimage people who are always here.

Maybe if all Softimage users input their thoughts, it can improve. We have to keep in mind that not all Softimage users are in this forums, sadly.

Before seeing it i was skeptical, but after perusing it, looks good and very well done.

Might only need some cleanup of repetitions.

Ah well, Autodesk was never interested enough in the Softimage user voice to process any wishlist thread, they seem to have largely ignored the SIC London survey and never even bothered to open an official user voice site for Softimage. And in the meantime development has slowed to a crawl.
What has changed recently that makes you believe they will listen now?

I can confirm that AD is interested and listening.

So its up to us to use it wisely.

From the mailing list Stefan Rueffer: https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic ... VNuvdznuz0
Hello,

Thanks a lot for creating this website, Greg.

This will make it much easier to see if our current ideas are lining up with the needs of the whole community and will give some excellent input about what might come next.

So please everybody use this to help us to pick the most needed features and be assured that the complete Softimage team will listen closely.

Cheers,
Stefan

They'll "listen closely"... :-?
As a user initiative this isn't bad,
but don't expect Autodesk to actually do much with the data coming from it.

The Unofficial Softimage user voice is almost as big as Maya. Hey there both even, just user choice or preference.

Let's try to be optimistic Hirazi. Stefan is Product Designer for Softimage (lead of the dev team) so it's very good to know he's listening.

Nice of Stefan to dtop by. Good timing too, as in any other thread it would have just become more of a reason for people to moan and groan.

You're right, I should try a bit harder. Sadly, the last couple of years of Softimage development and Autodesk maneuvering have drained my optimism somewhat. And I stand by my original complaint: if they like the idea so much, why haven't they ever opened an official user voice site?

More from Stefan:
Hello,

For sure we will not forget about the old requests, but the priority might change over time and so it's helpful to see that.
So please mention features and improvements again, even if they have been already logged to give them the proper weight.
Most beneficial would be to get information about the small things that might be easy to implement, but would mean a big improvement on your daily workflows.

Please take my apologies for not introducing myself.

I am Product Designer for Softimage specifying the details for new features, enhancements and workflows for Softimage in coordination with Product Management.

Concerning my background I am a long term Softimage user since version 2.0.
I have started on the technical side doing scripting and pipeline integration but switched later to be a TD and Generalist.
During my 8 years in the tv commercial industry I have worked in nearly all areas of 3d production like modeling, animation, shading, rendering, simulation,... and ICE.

And a long time ago I made a presentation for ICE that some of you might remember :-)

I might have interpreted his Linkedin description as a "Principal User Experience Designer" too narrowly then...
Although I know it's pointless if he doesn't visit our little community anyway, but let me hereby invite mister Stefan Rueffer - quite sincerely, I hasten to add - to join our little playground as well. And if he doesn't visit here, maybe someone on the Mailing List could point him in the right direction. Let me be clear: I am not talking about daily intensive participation. Some well-timed occasional visits could work wonders for morale...
