.stl file?
anyone know if there is a way to convert one of my files to an stl file?
I found someone with a 3D printer, and apparently that is what they want the format to be in...

Re: .stl file?
I have absolutely no experience with these kinds of things,
but you could take a look at the "open sourced" Meshlab.

Hi,
you can use "Deep Exploration" or "Polytrans" for this task. Or even Rhino, they have a demo with 10 or 20 file export ;-)

Re: .stl file?
It would all depend on how often you are planning on doing this, obviously,
but "Polytrans" and "SAP Visual Enterprise Author" (formerly known as Deep Exploration, apparently)
would seem to be slight (financial) overkill as there are many cheaper options you can try before resorting to buying one of those...

Re: .stl file?
I wonder if Autodesk 123D has fbx i or other import? It's made for 3d printing so there must be the right kind of export

Nice catch!luceric wrote:I wonder if Autodesk 123D has fbx i or other import? It's make for 3d printing so there must be the right kind of export
123D apparently supports OBJ import and STL export.
Who would have guessed that on an Autodesk related forum
we could successfully have overlooked this little tool...

Re: .stl file?
There is an *.stl export script for Softimage here, written in Python by Vladimir Jankijevic.
Re: .stl file?
I'm not sure if would trust just any random stl exporter. Surely there must be some intelligence built in an app that's made for 3D printing to produce proper files
