Second doc on Softimage on youtube where they say Softimage was "passed to various owners around like a hot potatoe", imho an exaggeration, given that Avid owned it for 10 years.

I enjoyed sharing links to that Softimage video. Although it has no reference to Softimage, here is in exchange another cool video I found, about the history SGI

rumor had it that Avid was going to sell Softimage to Dassault Systeme (the aerospace company that also owned CATIA and Solidworks), and that a deal had all but been completed, and that some people from Autodesk had somehow bribed the shareholders of Avid to sell to them, instead...
it's just a rumor.
what isn't a rumor, is Autodesk's purchase of Softimage being illegal, given anti-competive practice laws...
