aaOcean SuiteAuthor: Amaan Akram
The Open Source aaOcean Suite is a collection of Softimage ICE nodes and a mental ray shaders that implements Jerry Tessendorf's paper on simulating ocean waves, which is currently the most widely used method for open water ocean surfacemodeling being used in the industry.

This particular implementation presents itself as a 3D deforming grid inside Softimage, which then becomes the source of vector displacement map sequences that are sent to Mental Ray for final rendering. One of the benefits of using this approach is that it opens up the possibility of making other 3D objects inside Softimage react with the ocean grid via ICE. Another benefit is the speed that it brings in setting up your ocean right inside Softimage on a low resolution ocean grid to set basic paramters like wave height and speed, rather than rendering a sequence of images in Mental Ray. Works nicely in conjunction with Werner Ziemerink's Wave Curl.

im in need of using this plugin for a project and having an hard time rendering out the images as vector displacement maps.

there is a node aaOceanDataShader which has a file output "write shader data" option, but nothing gets saved to disk.
Last time i used aaOcean was the first iteration which had a very different workflow, anyone would be able to help?

In my case, I had to do a region-rendering to get the output.
A file was created each time the frame was advanced while region-rendering

Also, it's better to add textures to Shadows and Photons so that the render doesn't look weird.

I don't know if it's helpful or not.

1) Open the downloaded file.
2) Specify the folder to save aaOceanDataShader's exr.
3) Region-rendering in the mental ray

If this doesn't work, I don't know what's causing it.
It may be that the installation is incorrect and the shader is giving an error.

Maybe double check write permissions in the output folder?

when i drag a render region this warning pops up

"' WARNING : PHEN 0.5 25 MB warn : [aaOcean Shader] Shader's Transform input is zero. Using Identity instead
' WARNING : PHEN 0.5 26 MB warn : [aaOcean Shader] Foam Min/Max mismatch. Please set the Foam Min/Max values in foam shader to Min: 0.429399, Max: 1.733000
"
but idk if that is the issue, the permission in the output folder is fine since its writing the normal render files i think there is some issue with the installation of the plugin.. idk.

Hmmm... Honestly, aaOcean has changed so much that I don't even know what it is.

There seems to be a script that can export Vector map in Blender
It might be better to do an obj export of the sea, export the map in Blender and texture it in Softimage to save time.

aaOcean is either so-called last version "aaOceanRev345_latest" or "aaOceanRev255_stable"
aaOceanIceDeformer Major Version = 2 Minor Version = 6
aaOceanDataShader Major Version = 1 Minor Version = 0

If you search for aaOcean on the web, aaOcean_suite will appear, but you have never operated aaOcean_suite

Softimage = 2015 R2
