XSI Theme for Blender 2.83 - (May release)

Post by sirdavid32 » 14 Apr 2020, 07:06

Hello, team.
I am looking for a little help with some nuances from Softimage UI. I´m pretty sure most of you are aware that I was designated to mantain the XSI theme for Blender.
My OWN theme is called XSIMOD theme, and that's what I've been propagating around for a while.
But the Blender devs decided it was cool to integrate an XSI theme (I don't know why won't they call it SOFTIMAGE, but they DO MENTION MAYA and MODO straight out).
Anyways, click on the gallery. There are 4 captures in this link. Here's some progress:

There is a lot more I will posting late on my blog.
1st Question: Does anyone know which is the correct UI font Softimage uses?
I managed my way around the script editor using COURIER.ttf
I see Softimage has 3 font sets:
BIG BUTTONS
PREFERENCES/Transforms
Embossed buttons

It looks to me that regular font (like when you type your transforms) is arial narrow, but I don't know it this is correct.

I can't help you with your questions (I've searched the web but couldn't find an answer either)...
Maybe luceric can shed some light on that... :ympray: He still visits here sometimes... :-bd
But I personally think it is rather nice that they call it an "XSI Theme" and not a "Softimage Theme".
To me the software always will be remembered as XSI. But I am aware that's just my humble opinion... ^#(^

Yeah, I was just thinking the same. Why not call it Softimage? It was its last name to wear... so I guess people will click with it more immediately? Or is it because XSI was shorter and had more public before it went "softimage"? Mysteries, I´ll never figure out.
Early preview and DOWNLOAD of the XSI theme for Blender is here:

Maybe you could change the thread title to something more eye-catching like "Looking for Softimage interface font" to highlight the main question... :-?

Softimage|XSI uses the font called "Tahoma" and Tahoma Bold for almost everything

Thank you for checking it out. I just submitted a new image: ICE and RENDER have skyblue and cyan colors, which I think they should correspond to the properties tab (render options, formats, passes, etc..)

I hope the Blender devs don't put silly objections. I've been busting my back to make this theme available for free putting so many hours. Anyways, thanks! I´ll seek to place the TAHOMA font for softimage. Where did you get the source info? Cheers!

Nice one. Might be fun to load it up for nostalgia sake.

hahahahahaha thankfully it can actually be... It's GPL, even if the foundation dies, it would still be able to remain alive one way or another.

yep. Alive 4 ever it seems. So 2.9 is now on the horizon and apparently the LTS version will have to wait until then (Long term support) which basically ensures compatibility with render farms and "serious" 3D pipelines.
The time you invest in dominating it (for now) it seems that will not be quenched.
Sculpting in Blender now feels like a brand new Bugatti on a clean street.
