dropping subscriptions and versions
As I am forced to drop subscription soon, I have a small question concerning licensing: I understand I lose my previous version rights, but would this still allow me to continue using one specific previous version, for instance 2014 (and none of the others) or is the usage of the most recent version "set in stone".

If you activated your 2015 license, then you upgraded and you cannot use the previous versions.Hirazi Blue wrote:As I am forced to drop subscription soon, I have a small question concerning licensing: I understand I lose my previous version rights, but would this still allow me to continue using one specific previous version, for instance 2014 (and none of the others) or is the usage of the most recent version "set in stone".

If "April" actually happens in April, I should still be able to partake in its spoils.

good, we made change to Maya UI organization and modeling that are significant enough that you should have the latest one as your last one, and not 2015. I assume you already looked at going to the cheaper subscription tiers that were not available with Softimage.

If you can ignore the language (I don't understand nothing on arab), you can have a good idea of the new UI and flow on Maya LT. I guess it's similar to Maya 2016 full.
For me, I like it. Just hope it works well and BiFrost is improved.

Yes, I have looked at all my options. For the record: me dropping Autodesk Subscription is primarily not a commentary on the way this company conducts its business and it’s not the beginning of some migration path to other software. The sad reason to drop Subscription and to try to milk Softimage 2015 until it’s absolutely dry is purely of a financial nature. Due to circumstances out of my control I simply can’t afford this hobby anymore.luceric wrote:I assume you already looked at going to the cheaper subscription tiers that were not available with Softimage.

If now it must be a free hobby, why don't you learn Houdini Hirazi? The apprentice is free.

ATM I don't see any reason to abandon Softimage just yet.
It works beautifully and in some respects it's still "top of the line".
Not having to learn new software at my old age is a clear benefit also.

I never subscribed to the "too old to learn" view myself.
Softimage should still be good for a long time so at least you will have that to work with until something similar or better comes along. Hopefully, by that time, you will be in a better position. Keep your eyes and mind open to new possibilities in the future.
You can still join for the free version of Houdini or go the Indie way. Houdini has a steep learning curve, but when it click, it click in a big way.
In rendering you have 3Delight, Arnold and soon Renderman to play with for free as well. And Let's not forget Blender and Cycle.
Providing you have a computer system to work with any of these solutions, you should be set for a while.
Keep active in this community at least.

Don't worry, I'll stay on active duty here. And as to the "too old to learn" view: I never subscribed to it either,
but then I started to notice how hard learning had become to me.
It might not be true in general, to me personally it however sadly seems to apply.

Re: dropping subscriptions and versions
For me, what I find the hardess is to break habits and to adapt to a significantly different workflow, especially those that don't make sense, takes too many clicks or are highly illogical (I sound like Spock).
This is not a case of too old to learn or resistance to change especially if you came from Soft. We just tend to question the logic a bit more because we have tasted a better cheese.
Live long and Prosper, my friend.
