Can't they just put a download link, every day Blender seems more atractive.

These two videos impressided me with what Blender is capable of. Of course, the second one, the guy uses 'animation' intelligently, but the render is really good.

Anyway, I've downloaded the demo to try it out. But I'll say that I'm liking Modo each day more and more, as I use to the end of this crappy 15-day trial period they have.

I didn't like Modo when i played with it. Compared to Softimage simplicity and organization.

I don't compare anything else with Softimage, it's not fair! :-B

I bought the HelloLuxx training for C4D and started following with the demo of R16. The first part is very simple, to create this.

So ... to make some shortcuts, I exported via Collada to Modo and tried to do the same (tree replications through the surface) with Replicators. I must say that the performance on Modo for viewport manipulation and selection of items is way better than C4D. I was surprised about that, since we hear a lot about Modo poor viewport performance.

So I did a stupid test ... a plane subdivided a lot, on Modo using a cube + replicators and on C4D a cube + clones + instances enabled. When you make a lot of instances/replicas, I can still move around in Modo, with some lag, but it goes. In C4D it just stalls.

There must be something in C4D that can be similar replicators, but not necessarily mograph cloner instances, because if not, for this type of stuff, Modo seems more suited to handle large count of object/replicas.

Anyway, back to the training.

Viewport performance on poly meshes is not that bad in Modo but I've noticed that it eats almost 2x more RAM than other packages.

P.S. I think that's caused by custom normal info imported from fbx, but still it should not be like this.

I'll pay attention on the memory usage, but in any case, with 2x memory, at least I was able to move around in the scene.

For stuff thats doesnt move in modo. convert it to a static mesh

I'm actually quite happy with the results I got from Modo comparing it to C4D. The viewport performance was laggy when I pushed, but I could still use it.

On C4D I just couldn't use it. But thanks for the tip Angus!
