I'm sure a lot of you already know this one. Helped someone via PM with this but though it might be useful to share with everyone.
If you are working with scenes with very large point clouds you can change the display percentage found in the point cloud so that you don't have to deal with the large amount of point in the viewport.

This is one of the best tricks to deal with heavy simulations.
I recently had a scene with hundreds of thousands of strands which played back at about 1 fps - this was a lifesaver back then.
