Face Robot Sample Scenes (SOLVED)

Post by Hirazi Blue » 16 Sep 2009, 08:44

This was mentioned on the German xsiforum.de, but hasn't been discussed on any of the English speaking community sites yet as far as I can tell, so maybe it's a local phenomenon (as I live close to the German border :)) ) but the Sample Scenes for Face Robot that accompany SI 2010 seem to be corrupt. Not corrupt as in "can't load", but corrupt as in "there's something amiss with the head geometry". Is this a User error or is there "something rotten in the state of Robot" :D :-\

i have not seen that particular problem, but for some reason the ears move around an awful lot with these Face Robot rigs... perhaps it just comes down to tweaking though. Also, if you are running 1280x800 laptop resolution, you can't see the "Pick Items" button in the Face Robot Assembly tab... i had to plug in an ext. monitor to see it.

Weird, it's a new install (how couldn't it be?) and this misshaped face shows up in all the FaceRobot Sample Scenes... :-? Suggestions anyone?

I've tried on a couple of machines, and all the Face Robot scenes load ok for me.
If you draw a render region, is the face messed up there too?

Yes, sadly it is...
Reinstall? Already?
What could have caused this? I've known scenes that didn't load, but scenes that deformed the mesh so severely I did not yet see...

I don't know if I would reinstall. Maybe runonce and rename the User folder, just to make sure.
If you "save as" the scene and then reload, do you get the same problem?

Maybe you could save the smallest FR sample scene, and if it still has the problem, send it to me so I can load it here? If you log a support request through the Sub Center I can open an FTP site for you.

It’s possible that this problem could be fixed by setting your Windows Regional Options to be “English (United States)” so that number formats are 000,000,000.00 instead of 000.000.000,00.

Can you try and let me know what happens?

It works!!! :ymparty:
Thanks... :-bd
But why didn't this problem come up in any previous versions of (X)SI (or was I just not using it right?)

It is the Formats in the Windows Regional and Language Options.
I can reproduce the problem by changing my number format to 123,456,789,00.

It's really a Face Robot problem, not XSI. Face Robot was not as widely distributed, so it didn't happen to more than a few customers.

I trust you'll let them know on xsiforum.de ? thanks!

region settings will affect any non-trivial plug-in that makes heavy use of scripting and file i/o. and face robot is such a plug in :)
