It will set the selection colors the same as in SI, and changes some of the BG colors as well.
I also changed some small things, like removing the center icon and such.
Just unzip and copy the content to your <user path>/houdini16.0/x folders. Start H16, and set your color scheme to Dark.
The adjusted Dark scheme file can be found
here
If you don't like it, just delete it. Be sure to save your preferences before closing H16, so it will remember your settings next time ;)

Do you tried the Slate theme guys ? it's a very good mix between the too dark Houdini base theme and the light one ;-)

Thanks for that, looks nice with the blue accent color.
I do hope there will be a proper color chooser in H at some point, something like in Maya.
So we can change colors to our hearts content in a UI, and no... the python one doesn't count. It's too buggy. ;)

A bit better.
It is not only the tone , it is the design, they accentuate the divisions of all blocks in GUI. One of the things that i liked in Softimage is that all appeared to be a continuum without useless separators.
I prefer a seamless appearance. For example in that Houdini the model viewport has 2 heavy marked separators in each side. Why? I would get rid of them. If the propose is to move the sides i would tone down them.

A couple of things you might like to try to give your UI a complete overhaul.
The first is the Viewport Python Pane, which gives you complete control over your colour scheme. You can get to that through your Houdini Help - /ref/windows/pythonpaneleditor.
The second is the flatUI that comes as part of the ace Qlib library for Houdini:

The Viewport Python Pane never works for me, it a) doesn't want to work at all, or b) just crashes Houdini and messes up my existing color profile in my user folder
And I agree with Bullit, the UI needs some polishing in future versions of H.

Never given me any problems. Must be sensitive to the environment in some way (as is often the case with anything involving Python and Houdini).
