Maya/Max Migration training?

Post by Hirazi Blue » 22 Mar 2014, 16:11

While the Autodesk Softimage Learning Channel still hasn't finished uploading the Legacy FaceRobot videos, I would really have hoped for some official learning material from Autodesk geared towards Softimage users transitioning to Maya or Max. Is there any such material out there? And if not: why not?

Hi Hirazi,

why are you so eager to leave the ship if it is just a hobby to you? There shouldn't be any pressure as you aren't commercially involved, or? Most of us need to earn their money with this stuff, but if I wouldn't, I would stay with SI for at least 5 more years and stop paying subscription.

Cheers!

Moderator edit: Sorry, but while everybody is allowed to ask me that question again and again, I opened this thread with a specific question to which I at least would like to know the answer. - HB

Continue in Autodicks!? Bravo! The human is the only animal that fall in same mistake two times, and more times!

Probably because if they did, it may make people want to move to Houdini or Modo depending on their tech/artist ratio.

Wasn't this asked in the webinar? But i can't recall the answer, I just know the discussions Ive had. There is promise of material to help maya transition in the coming months, but not immediately. Clients are not eally expected to jump ship the week after the announcement, unless you already knew Maya. It's a two year transition plan. Silver lining, it'll be higher quality IMHO with the material being prepared with the feedback now that people are allowed to talk to Softimage users about this.

Thanks luceric, that does make sense... (not necessarily what I hope for, but still)
The only reason why I expected something sooner was because the initial decision to go for Max or for Maya would have to be made shortly, at "2015" release time if I'm not mistaken. Or is that something (Max/Maya) you can still switch between within the two year time-frame?

You have two years to decide if you want to have a free copy of Maya or Max with your copy of Softimage 2015. If you don't renew sub next year, you get to keep both forever.

right, that's also true. I wanted to emphasize that you're not deciding to give up Softimage, and therefore there is no reason to delay

Here is some training to get you started right away. From Jeremy Birn author of Digital Lighting and Rendering. It is now free. How cool is that?

Hello everyone,
I apologize for the delay in getting training out to you. I promise we are actively working on this and I hope to have something more concrete to announce soon.

Best,
Jill Ramsay
