Hi,
I've installed python 3.2.2 and tried also to install Pywin32. When running the installer on Windows 7 64 bit, it said that it couldn't python. Do I have to run the python installer as an administrator or has anyone experienced similar problems. I hope I don't sound stupid.
Thanks in advance.

Re: A problem installing studionest GEAR on Windows 7
Did you already try to install it "as an administrator"? It sometimes helps (don't ask why...)
Or could it be the UAC? (I don't use Windows 7 myself, I'm just guessing).
But it's the wrong version of Python to begin with!
Softimage doesn't work with the "3.x"-generation,
you're going to need a "2.6" (or "2.7") installer plus an accompanying pywin!
Try the instructions on this WIKI page
(edit: but ignore the download link to the file "PythonInstall64.rar", as it appears to be outdated, see below...).
But: What Softimage version are you running. From 2011 it should be installed with SI, IIRC!
;)
P.S. You mention "studionest GEAR", are you aware of its further development "after it left the nest": GEAR?
(heavily edited post...)
ultimate edit: I just figured something out, though: the GEAR documentation tells you explicitly to install an external Python and even sends you to the SI-WIKI to find out how to install it... But if you do have SI2011 or SI2012 there is no need to install an "external" Python just for GEAR!!!

That wiki page is for older versions of Softimage, like 2010.

Re: A problem installing studionest GEAR on Windows 7
I was aware of that, but AFAIK (and unless I am told otherwise by someone actually using Windows 7) the information seems to be still valid, if and when you need/want to install an "external" Python for use in Softimage on a x64 machine. The OP doesn't state his version in his post, so this was unclear to me.
Strangely though, the fact that SI2011 and later includes Python doesn't seem to hinder some people from still wanting to install an external Python...

If you want external python, then you can install the regular Python and pywin32.
With Softimage 2012 SAP, I'm currently using external Python 2.7 (not the version downloaded from the wiki page).

But still only of the 2nd generation - 2.6/2.7 - only, NOT 3.x, or has something changed there too?If you want external python, then you can install the regular Python and pywin32.

Right, still only 2.6 (recommended) or 2.7 (which I was using for testing).Hirazi Blue wrote:But still only of the 2nd generation - 2.6/2.7 - only, NOT 3.x, or has something changed there too?If you want external python, then you can install the regular Python and pywin32.
There's still no 3.x support.

Hi, I got it working after reading the comment that you have to point the variable to the module in this post.
