Re: MilanVasek wips

This is looking fantastic :) rock on! thanks :) Sounds like a good technique Milan. The results speak for themselves. You could create some vast cityscapes if you can get your hands on a powerfull machine and an Arnold renderfarm. Maybe your scatter tool could be used for all the people in the city...

Re: How rendering should be

I said something similar on MR forum, about most of studios using other render engines with SI nowadays ... man I almost finished in jail ... So take care about what are you saying :D you throw in a general statement from your limited view which is not true at all and you was corrected ( btw, i did...

Re: How rendering should be

well, i think it's a good thing that SI team doesn't spend too much of it's limited resources on Mental Ray. Almost all SI studios I know already use Arnold or Vray or 3delight. So it's better to focus on other things and let these 3rd party developers take care of rendering, have instant support, m...

Re: MilanVasek wips

Nice!! It's very you. It reminds me of something from a Terry Pratchett novel. You have created all the intricacies of a cityscape very well. Did you use a variation of your scatter tools for this? hey Sam! yeah, i use scatter at nulls, but i'm generating 10 points (instances) at each null position...

Re: MilanVasek wips

well, after a very long time, i've started doing some 3d at home again. i had this project in my mind for years. actually i started and stopped several times before. but now i feel like i can finally finish it with tools available (ICE and a renderer that can handle instances really well) :) of cour...

Re: bring back softimage.net

. I'd much rather see any feedback given the guys here or AREA team. ok, i'll try to be a little constructive here... my main problem with AREA is really crappy forum. why can't huge multi-billion dollar company make something at least as good as vBulletin or phpBB? (or just implement vBulletin) we...

Re: Maya nHair - how hard to repro?

also, there is another hair system on the way:
http://vimeo.com/41125869

but i really like that idea of putting the cool stuff into Softimage first to make all those Maya and Max users buy premium or ultimate suites :) it makes perfect sense from autodesk (greedy) point of view :)

Re: SPOILER ALERT - general Softimage 2013 description

now if we can see procedural shaders in viewport (even mixed, animated etc.) it would be nice to be able to use them in ICE to drive some effects... or is there already way to do it now that i missed? (i can think of rendering them to texture, using that as texture map and getting that in ICE, but w...

Re: Motion Tools

first of all, i vote for keeping it in one ICE tree as well. making some toolbar/menu is nice, but when i was making my scatter tools, i found it really difficult to cover more complex things, because nodes are so flexible and its impossible to cover all possibilities with buttons... as far as i kno...

Re: Scatter tools

sooo, here you can download Scatter Tools v1.1 http://milanvasek.com/_scattertools/ScatterTools1_1.xsiaddon packed as .xsiaddon so installation should be really easy. i removed some buttons from toolbar, because it was too complicated for me to make it work properly (i included also the other versio...

Re: Scatter tools

Nice. Well honestly I guess it is better for people to get used to ICE from start. More freedom and also ICE is there to stay, and staying away from ICE in Softimage would be same as skipping to learn Scene explorer :) I'm not in ICE as much as I would love to but it is still simple in enough to ge...

Re: Scatter tools

argh found it. needed to change number of objects in group in m_simple)scatter node :) it was reading only 1st object. my bad. I;ve forgot about that, now watched again that small qtime video tutor. Would be great to have that video on vimeo as well ;) that old video is recorded with some codec tha...
