Re: PhysX Fluid Simulation in Softimage ICE
First of all thanks for the simulation! Now are you sure that modifying the gravity is a good idea? I know that in 3d you tweak the values until it looks right even though the values are not by far the physical correct ones... Anyway, it looks alright but not that good when compared to the larger on...

Re: PhysX Fluid Simulation in Softimage ICE
Tekano,
In this last video the scale of the liquid tank seems to be several meters in length and the simulation looks believable. Can you please do a test at lower scales? Like a glass of water or a bucket. I'm curios how's holding up on this practical example.

Re: Endless Pain HD 6970 Dual-Fan
I only had Ati (now AMD) video cards back when I was only playing games at a PC, but as soon as I've met 3D I've broke up with Ati. They still do amazing cards for gaming, but their drivers leave you wanting almost every time. One cannot help wonder, what was in your head when you bought a PC for 3D...

Re: I just love it [selecting near points]
Yes you're right. I believe they made changes to the selection tools in 2012 SAP which may have also changed this behavior. In what case would you have points on top of each other that shouldn't be merged? I guess I just don't understand why this is an issue or why you would want this behavior. Can...

Re: I just love it [selecting near points]
OK, for the guys that say that it's always been like that: (you need to have SP1 or older installed too) - make a polyCone leave the default settings, select the top point and disconnect it - click to select (simple click, not click&drag). if you have activated "show selection info" (S...

Re: I just love it [selecting near points]
It can't have always been like that for you. Probably you didn't pay attention.
If there is no setting to change that, it must had been the same for everyone.

I just love it [selecting near points]
When a S/W company, Autodesk in this case, changes something for no good reason. Don't you? In 2012.5 when you click on two points occupying exactly the space/same coords, it only selects one of them. Now you have to drag a rectangle to select them both. If I'd want just one of them, I'd enter in ra...

I'm not surprised. My guess is that Autodesk doesn't do ads on cgtalk anymore. He's quit and He does his own pure form of ads.

Oh my GOd ActionArt, now I feel the urge to go cut one of my femoral artery. Or maybe both.
And of course, I've forgot to say:
Happy New Year!

Aaaah, yes!
Dealt with it a few times. Fortunately not very often. Or rather unfortunately? Knowing how to work with scripted ops is an Ace in the hole for sure.

Re: My Wishlist for Softimage... maybe 2013 ?
Be able to see the render in its native resolution is a must! You can do that right now. Open the preview window and then uncheck the Autofit viewer option (from Oprions menu button) and refresh the window. I'm affraid you must do this everytime you render a preview. When rendering a whole pass, th...

Re: "Autodesk shifts design apps to the cloud"
Com'on guys, it's not about the fight against piracy, but about control . Autodesk, like almost all other big corporations, wants to know what you do so that they'll be able to give you "what you need". It's a very popular trend - look at Google how they manage the search, different user/p...

Right now you have on your hdd the software but it's not yours, just rent to you. Some time in the future you won't have it on your PC either. Probably the next step is for one black suit to appear at your door and ask you money for something you will never know. Ha ha!

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I believe min-16 is a bit too high. You have there a lot of "flat" areas where oversampling is wasted. Try min = 1-4 max = 64-128 cutoff = .1-.2 quality = go above 1 Going above 1 might increase render time (which I hope will be compensated by getting this to be more adaptive by lowering m...

Re: V-RAY FOR SOFTIMAGE BETA - finaly here
I'm not sure as I didn't got the chance to use unified sampling in a serious render and neither have I studied the docu thoroughly, but I believe that cutoff is a threshold value and setting it to .002 you give it very little to none room to be adaptive. I would increase it along with max samples an...
