Re: OpenVDB volume grids with Softimage and Redshift
HI, In Blender, the default settings for rendering are set up way too high for Cycles imho. For the Lightmap bounces, start with setting everything to 2. For the Sampling settings, start with 4-2. Now you have quick testrenders and the viewport. Also, test the Desnoiser to keep your final render sam...

Re: low-cost 3D software (alternatives to Blender?)
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think there are any low-cost 3D apps out there anymore. Not if you want more than just some basic modeling and rendering. And most of the commercial apps switched to subscriptions and alike, so not really interesting for hobbyists. I guess it depends on what you ...

Re: Bforartists 2 Alpha 0.1.0 released
I, and some other people, recently started to look into Blender more seriously and every time 2.8 is surprising me. (can't stand 2.79...) Most of the functionality is well layed out, with some really useful tools/additions that I missed in Softimage, Maya or others. Yes, there's workflow stuff in Bl...

Re: Bforartists 2 Alpha 0.1.0 released
Interesting.
Would love to see the differences between this and Blender 2.8 in a short video.
So, will this build be equally quickly updated? Or at least within the realms of once a month?

Technically, it's SItoA that is being kept alive here. If not, it doesn't matter if Arnold is available or not
Softimage is on a slow, unstoppable ending. At some point we have to let go, and move on.
The final step of acceptance....

Gnomon being a Maya started, AD supported Workshop, this really doesn't surprise me....
But nice find.
And Vitaly should have a chat with Jama Jurabaev

Re: Maya 2019 released...
Matt,
To keep some of your sanity, use MGear for Maya for rigging and some weight painting stuff, and use NG SkinTools for anything else.
It will help.... a bit....

Re: Maya 2019 released...
:)) :)) :)) :)) But to add to my comment before, I used a render region plugin for Maya in Maya2015/2016!!!! Written by Arvid Schneider, called arViewportRender. It had almost all features of the Softimage renderregion. Very useful, and it worked with Arnold as well. But after all those years, still...

It looks like Eric's Vimeo account is still active, some info can be found there :) I'll have a look as well, I -think- I have all of them somewhere..... rob Edit: Maybe we can get Eric to share his plugins in the Resources section for people to use? And I once talked to him about making the website...

Looks like it doesn't, all links are to the website.
But with the website gone, and no manuals it might be hard to use if you don't use them often.
