Re: Change the selection that a specific stack operator is using
Yes, Modify>Deform operations create a cluster automatically. With Modify>Poly.Mesh ones I need to make them myself. To change the polygons used in the Ops I need to disable the stack down to the operation I want to change, add/remove polygons to the cluster and then enable it again. Yes, selection ...

Re: Change the selection that a specific stack operator is using
Doing a duplicate of duplicate of a duplicate, etc allows me to disable the stack in one of the middle duplicates and see the last one update, not as stack controllable as Max or Blender in terms of Order changing, but at least this way I can mute what I want. Though properties like Weight Maps upda...

Re: Best modeling practices on SI for a LW user?
* duplicate border edges to extrude, with the new edges selected Thanks for the website rray made it quit easy to find the plugins suggested :) This also works for polygons! Like LW's Extend plus. Great! * ability to have different move/tweak tools each on its own hotkey, prepared in different setu...

Deform to pickup a previous version of the mesh shape
Imagine I have a character to which I keep changing the shape and giving attributes to components. Say at the end of iteration 8 I look at it and find I had the model proportions of an area better better at iteration 6. What's the best way to deform the current character's mesh to a previous iterati...

Re: Best modeling practices on SI for a LW user?
What's so funny is the concept of the developers adding something as useful as this! Their track record over the last 2 releases makes it seem rather unlikely :( Oh so it's like SI is dying from a development pov? :/ Not quite the perspective I was looking for in a trasition, hhmm, though for the i...

Re: Best modeling practices on SI for a LW user?
@ Richy & Kovalex: Thanks that looks like a good sum-up to test around and feel comfortable with \:D/ @azurecgi: I don't understant what is so funny... Off Topic: I noticed that sadly SI only supports Linear Edges for UV Interpolation, which usually produces some "rags" if you make you...

Re: Changing the normals of an object for displacement
Yup, it worked. I used the Vector Displacement Node with Green channel set to 5,0 and input the Map in the scalar. I first managed to do it on ICE by adding to "Get Point Position" a Y=x, and feeding it into "Set Point Position". But ICE only works with Modeling Subdivision, not ...

Re: Best modeling practices on SI for a LW user?
Thanks for all the replies, I'll have a lot to chew to grow my SI modeling skills teeth but already using some of the tips here :) Decided to brute force a modeling job today, ehehe. The tweak tool has been showing really good. Question: I use Alt key Navigation Option (D assigned to Transform Pivot...

Changing the normals of an object for displacement
I want to apply a displacement to an object on the Y Axis only. In my LW background the displacement input is a vector. So I have to feed the object normals and scale them with an image (displacement map). Therefor to apply displacement on the Y I would just feed a Vector with X=0, Y=1, Z=0 and sca...

Re: Changing the Default tool used by Component selections
Thanks that makes a world of difference to me. Even though there are many selection tools the 'pick' sessions use the default.
I would not know how to script such. But I'll keep that level of control in mind.
Cheers

Best modeling practices on SI for a LW user?
Hi The studio I am at the moment uses SI in it's pipeline. I usually feed it with Lightwave models, but I would like to be part of it and am trying to grasp the best modeling practices in SI in terms of speed and control. I am posting because sometimes when moving to another software there's the mis...

Re: Change the selection that a specific stack operator is using
Thanks guys. Yeah cluster seemed the way to do it. Also nice that clusters propagate with modification :) Component ID will always be a limitation on these kinds of things. But still this is quite cool. Adds an extra step to the operation, but it's quite manageable. Funny enough but Deform>Smooth cr...

Change the selection that a specific stack operator is using
I know generally about modifier stacks and have known only MAX and Blender ones so far the SI stack looks wierd. First I cant choose to disable individual operators. I disable a branch, then I can add some operators and to see the end result I have to turn them all on again. I understand vertex ID i...

Changing the Default tool used by Component selections
Newbie alert. Using Softimage very recently.
I hate the fact default rectangle selection tool selects backface components. Is there a way to get shift-10 tool, ray-trace triangle, or lasso to be the default?
Thanks
