Do you really need the strands? If you're just wanting to create a polygon trail behind an object or curve, could try this (link to scene file on vimeo page):

In emTools there is a compound called "Per Node to Per Point". Could take a look into it and reverse engineer?
Edit - actually, there is also a per point to per node compound

I think blender has much better options available for npr rendering - Freestyle especially.

Re: multiple crashes
There could be a hardware issue which only appears in very cpu stressful situations. have you tried stress-testing with other programs, just to rule it out?

Re: Tips 'n Techniques when setting up a (small) production
I'd stay away from nested reference models, always had issues when using 2 or more ref models within another, as the deltas end up confused/corrupt. You can constrain one ref model to another ok, though I've had the most reliable success by using a spacer null underneath one ref model such as parent...

Its fixed the issues I had with the reinterpret node which was causing some kristinka setups to crash soft. Hopefully that means Paul's Fuzz nodes should be safe on this version as well :) I was running soft 2015 sp1, but as I'd installed maya 2016 with a new licence I had to install the 2015 R2 SP2...

Re: GEAR scaling problem
Rather than scale the local ctl, there is a scale parameter underneath the global ctl (I think) which allows for limited scaling, up to 3x. There are a few oddities that can occur when scaling the gear rigs in general, its better to scale scenes around them if possible. So it seems that the compone...

Thanks for pushing on this Paul, will try to stress test 2015 a bit more over the next couple of days and see if there are any other squashable bugs around.

Could try a traditional cage deform first? There are a few ice equivalents, but if you freeze the envelope weights after applying then the basic built in tool is fairly fast.

Re: Can i get index of oposite vertex?
There's a nice example here, can't remember if its an open compound or not to learn from, but its saved my ass a few times when symmetrical modelling has gone astray.
