Re: Animation Nodes 1.0 for Blender
Yikes. That stuff looks a lot like any generic Cinema 4D showreel from only a few years ago. Maxon will have to keep on working hard to justify the cost of a license when you can produce stuff like that for free.

It sure was and still is. I'm still going back to it when I need things done in a hurry.MauricioPC wrote:This just show how Softimage was always ahead of time.
Here is a version using a very similar technique in Houdini. Grains in Houdini are a lot like Lagoa.

Re: SideFX Houdini 15 it out!
I use Houdini as there is simply no alternative to ICE that comes anywhere close. It's as simple as that. Usability doesn't come into it. This will change in time but I'm not prepared to wait. I am not anti Autodesk (they are just a company making money), but I simply do not believe them when they s...

By execution, do you mean the Vex nodes Cook Time?Mathaeus wrote:Regarding speed, and what I had chance to try tonight - VOP (that is, ''ICE") execution was a bit slower

Re: SideFX Houdini 15 it out!
I've only played with H15 for an hour or so. My first impression is SPEED. Everything feels more responsive from the the viewport to general navigation. There is a very noticeable improvement in Mantra performance. The new Principle Shader is a joy to use (and quite un-Houdini like in it's approach)...

Re: Are we there (dead?) yet?
Still using Houdini and learning (a little bit) of C4D.
Most of the work still has to be done in Softimage though.

High level presets, yay!
It gets more like ICE every time I see it.

Re: Houdini 15 Teaser
Very cool. A very solid and well rounded release. They seem to be aiming more for the generalist and small studio market (the natural home of Softies) as well as FX. It makes me a lot more confident in my decision to pick Houdini for my future. I could be wrong but I'm pretty sure a lot of those new...

Re: Some serious problems with character artists?
I always thought this post from CG Memes summed up the problem with how modern VFX looks quite nicely. http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-5UHXXii9-8o/VYgshKLaQTI/AAAAAAAAghY/8nz3O_-G2Oo/s1600/vfxlens.jpg You can't really judge any VFX in either movies or TV without knowing more about the budget, pipeline and...

It's all very cool. Much more slick.
Now all you need are some quick start tutorials for absolute beginners. Something like SideFX have done with their last release of Houdini.

Re: Status of monophyl and other Softimage blogs
A couple of months ago I said that caffeineabuse.blogspot.com wasn’t going anywhere. It turns out that might not have been completely true. The day have finally come when this blog will no longer get any updates. I want to thank everyone for all the emails, questions and comments I’ve received thro...

It's a game changer if your a Houdini user. Render speed is a such a crucial thing for individuals and small studios. If only it could be used with Houdini Indie.

Re: Softimage replacement, anyone
No.
There is no exact replacement and there never will be. Just find a package(s) that is closest to your needs and learn to adapt.
For me it's Houdini and Cinema 4D so far.

Maybe this move has nothing to do with pleasing the existing user base but rather is designed to attract a wider VFX user base.
