Re: How rendering should be
Export times are quite bad in XSI, because it´s single threaded, for some reason. It's not so much the export as it's the evaluation of the scene graph that's single threaded. The render plugin has to traverse the scene graph and evaluate all dependencies for the objects being rendered. From what I...

Re: Houdini big news
In that case Houdini's still pretty damn expensive. Don't forget the annual upgrade plan and double the price if you don't want a node-locked license.SreckoM wrote:Mostly because many of us here are freelancers, and for us it is almost impossible to have (pay) all of them.

Re: Houdini big news
Houdini is great. A very fully featured and complex program with some really smart solutions for solving problems and moving data around your scene. It's great for complex and simple solutions alike and does some things Softimage can only dream of (I'm looking at you volumetrics!). Having said that ...

No need. The tools are publicly available. aaOcean + lattices = winRork wrote: So, again, learn to program ;-)

Re: do you know how to develop wave generator like this?
the interactive huge wave :D When this video first came out (it was made pre-ICE), it was stated on a few forums that the big waves were shaped using standard Softimage deformers. They probably just had a fancy front end to the tools. The real genius is in the Tessendorf wave deformer. Hats off to ...

Re: do you know how to develop wave generator like this?
Hi, the basic ocean effect is created with a Tessendorf wave deformer. Have you tried using Amaan Akram's aaOcean Suite ? Further deformation can be achieved with basic deformers in Softimage. The basis of this effect is relatively simple to achieve with the "reinterpret location to new geometr...

Re: Softimage Creative (SIC) Survey and next meetup
Yes, volume rendering would be a HUGE help. ICE is so amazing but you can't do too much with particles/Lagoa unless you export it out to a different package to render. I don't think the answer lies within Mental Ray, although I know there are twenty or so people out there that are hanging on to it....

Re: Maxwell Render 2.7 released
Thanks for this - it looks like a really nice integration so far, I like it. Good job! Just a couple of problems that I noticed during some quick testing with the latest demo. - Maxwell Fire doesn't always update as expected. In Soft 2013 when I change some BSDF values, Fire won't update until I hit...

Re: “Mute" icon with Custom Operator
Hi, you can set the mute property of the custom operator. You'll probably want to add a parameter to display in the operator's PPG. Then in the OnClicked callback for the parameter, you can set the Operator.Mute value. http://download.autodesk.com/global/docs/softimage2013/en_us/sdkguide/si_om/Opera...

Re: Cant close python windows if they exist??
I've been told that the best method would be to get a list of all open windows in SI and then take names from that and destroy them. Whats the command for this? I've done the same in maya very easily but I cant find the command here after searching for a while. Since you're drawing pyQt UI windows,...

Re: V-Ray for Softimage: Tutorials and Walkthrough
Does anyone know whether the VraySphereFade option is available for Softimage? http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/tutorials_anim.htm#vraysphere So you can limit your raytracing to only reflective objects. ( Excellent raytracer but to slow for doing character animation.) That looks to be a reall...

Re: quickPrimitive
Does the pmQuickPrimitive command have a return argument for the class of primitive that was just drawn? I'd like to add support for this command to my plugin here: http://blog.blackredking.org/?p=184 . Otherwise it'd be cool to allow interactive adjustment of subdivs after the primitive has initial...

Re: Momentum3 issue
Sure, you just need to make use of linear and angular damping. You can animate this per island for some nice effects.
