Re: Cycles render engine released with permissive license
If I understood correctly, yes, the (e.g.) softimage developers can integrated it or make a bridge and ask money for it, but the upgrading and development done inside cycles are open so are part of cycles (and blender in general) Yes, that is my understanding too. In fact I believe a developer coul...

Great idea! Their forum is here: http://www.autopack.org/support/forum
I've posted in the preAlpha tester subforum a few times.

Re: AutoPack for Softimage alpha available
Yes, it's very nice. The pdb functions are part of the ePMV package. Unfortunately the Softimage version is still a little limited, e.g. no selecting individual chains, but hopefully they will keep working on it.

Re: ARNOLD RENDERER NOW ON SALE !
3Delight for Softimage version 4 is reportedly on the way. The licensing model can be a drawback in some situations.Falam wrote: What happen after 2010, are they still developing the render or is there anything left to develop for now ?

Sorry, that shader is so old that I am not surprised that is not working.

Re: Normal / Bump Replacement
I haven't thought about that shader in a long time. I wonder if it will work with recent versions of Soft. Anyway, the algorithm I implemented uses ray-marching to find the intersection point ("steep parallax mapping"). This should provide the same results as the relief mapping algorithms,...

Re: 90-Day Fixed Term Licenses (for Max & Maya)
The way they put it in the aforementioned FAQ, this merely appears to be intended as a “paid demo”, not as a potential life-saver for small shops to add a temporary seat on a per-project basis: I think that's exactly what it is. Compared with the free demo, it's 90 days instead of 30 and commercial...

Re: glsl access viewport pixels
I think it should work. That's how I wrote my anaglyph viewport addon, by writing both cameras to FBO's and then combining them with a glsl shader.Dan Lane wrote:Hi, Thanks both for the replys, I'll look into the custom XGS, and I'll be sure to share my progress(or lack of it!) on this thread.
Thanks

Re: glsl access viewport pixels
Hi, I'm really new to glsl shaders and not really sure what is or not possible. I have tried to simulate a realtime contour type shader by looking at the normals of a model. which works properly but the effect still isn't what I'm after. looking on the net I found that some people do an edge detect...

Re: Whatever happened to 3Delight?
Same thing happens on the paid version. I believe the only difference with the paid version is the number of cores you can use.kanenas wrote:It looks like either they forgot to code for it or it is done on purpose.
Maybe it's a hidden restriction on the free version (which is what I use).

One of the preview videos shows Fabric running in a Maya window. How well can it hook into the scene, and is the same possible with Softimage?

Re: What happened to MaelstromFX?
From this xsi_list thread We still believe that Maelstrom's technology (surfacer + simulator) has potential at a technological level but at the moment we don't see an effective market opportunity in the VFX space. (We are engaged in other fluid simulation projects though outside of the VFX space.) W...

Re: Passing object data to a shader
If I understand what you are trying to do, you will want to use a UserDataBlob to pass the information to your geoshader. Take a look at the Wireframe sample in the SDK.

That is very interesting. I don't see why it couldn't be done in ICE.
