Re: New Mental Ray shaders development
Guys,
I've just tried to use this shader, but I got an error message and Mental Ray is disabled for the rest of the session. Does anybody can help me installing this properly under Softimage 2014 SP2?
Cheers
Szabolcs

Re: Create Polygon Meshes from Instance Shapes
Hi I have an issue with this stuff. I tried to use it with Instance on Curve addon, and when I adjust parameters of the delete group, it is reflected well on the generated polymesh. That's the same with random scale parameter in the compound, the generated polymesh became quite different than the po...

Re: Need help doing multi tile normal map workflow in softimage
II'd suggest to use the Vector-Vector node. Set it to Minimum or Maximum and connect to XSINormalMap node, then daisy chain them, so always two nodes are getting in.
See attached screenshot.
Let me know if it helped

Re: Maya LT
Maya LT is a good move. I do not know Blender well, but to me it's interface is awkward, and being frightens me a bit. I assume there is no support, and the future is not stable (not that Softimage future looks stable, but at least there is a decent support!). The intent is quite obvious, use Maya L...

We have massive boolean crashes. Here's a sample, if anyone can make the boolean in this scene (the sphere is to be differenced out of the other object) I'd be really happy.

Hair solution in Softimage?
Hey guys
I'm just thinking if it is possible to create a hair solution that is like hair farm for Max? Is it possible to fill in polygonal mesh volume with strands? Or just buy Hairfarm and forget hair in SI?

Re: Normal Map Flips When Geometry is Mirrored
It's because the mirroring changes the order of vertices in a given face, and because mirroring is technically a -1 scale on the mirroring axis. If you use rendering, it might help to use the unbiased tangent or normal options in the XSINormalMap3 compund (I do not know atm which to try, it's up to ...

Re: Softimage and tablet
I'm on Win7 and SI2014SP1 and Wacom Intuos 5. No delay. I can't imagine working with mouse anymore, I am alot faster with pen. I turned off (Win7) all pen features, disabled the service that deals with this, and I used some third party app to switch off the ring feedback too (but It was rather annoy...

Re: Building your own Voronoi shattering effect
Hey, Nice method. However, I couldn't make it work on a sphere just on a grid. And, for some reason, the scanning was not really straightforward :). Finally, Apply Thickness is slow as hell, and doesn't cap the mesh :) on SI2014SP1 Anyway, really nice method, I learned a lot of ICE while I remade it...

Re: UV Editor | Weird issue clip not displaying
Have you exported your model to FBX? FBX export tends to give bad cropping value to the image on the model. XMin=0, xMax=0, YMin=1, YMax=1 or similar. If you check the PPG of the image, and the image displays as empty, just RMB and tell the PPG to Uncrop.

Re: 2 rigs on character
I used to use two rigs. One is for deformation (actually most of XSI rigs use it), and one or more is for animation. Many cases IK and FK rigs are different, with a simple parameter their effect is blended. It sounds more complicated than it is actually :) Usually constrains or expressions are drivi...

Re: Problem with Add Edge Tool
If you add edge with the LMB it works, if you click on an edge with MMB, it won't work, because it needs a vertex from where the fan will be built.
