Re: Softimage 2010 announced

yes, A temporary Siggraph promotion upgrade deal or something would have been nice. A lot of people will feel left out, I know I do..... I never liked the way AD is treating it's customers on upgrades and maintenance, and with this i's not going to change any time soon. It's just bad management that...

Re: Ctrl.Occlusion makes XSI crash

Ah, I did forget about this thread, but I can recall a way to pipe lights into the occlusion, I think it had to do with smartly linking some vector nodes. I'm pretty sure there were some threads on XSIBase on this. I can't recall the proper method used, and I don't have the time atm to fiddle and te...

Hi all,

Just wanted to let you know, due to several requests, I made the Lume tutorials into a downloadable PDF. So people can read them off line too.

Just follow the link in the footer ;)

Re: What new material do you want Redi to host...

I've been chatting with Jennifer from AD/Softimage on this, and the final word on this still has to be decided.
It's all a bit of a legal thing, and as we all know legal stuff can take some time ;)

Re: Alpha Premultiply problem

Alpha (pre)mulitplication shouldn't be an issue in any comp app. Most of them just have a checkbox to turn it on/off. But after re-reading your post try this: If you want just the contact AO of the car, remove the AO shader from the partition and add an override instead. Now add the 'primary rays vi...

Re: wom_archlight by wombat778

Hi Wombat, Cheers for that, I'll try as soon as I have the time. I don't really like the MR tonemappers in XSI, they tend to give me too washed out images compared to other solutions outside the renderer. And as my workflow is mostly linear/32bit exr nowadays, I'm hesitant to go back in and start us...

Re: Alpha Premultiply problem

I highly recommend a book called "The Art and Science of Digital Compositing" by Rob Brinkmann. It will extensively explain stuff like this, so it becomes more clear to you. Also CMIVFX have some terrific training for Fusion and compositing in general. And Gnomon has a very good one on bas...

Re: And for the UNBELIEVABLE news..

Hi Terry, Just started a DL on my trusty laptop. It's hovering around 300Kb/s, ETA around 50 min. Hope it helps. And don't get too worked up on people who nag. Free stuff seems to be a easy target for nagging and complaining. Or ignoring regarding a simple 'thank you'. It's the way the web works I'm...

Re: wom_archlight by wombat778

Wombat, First of all, hats off for the shader. It will come in really handy for any archviz stuff I'll have to do soonish. A quick question though after browsing the (very informative) manual. To get accurate results, do you have to have the tonemapper shader attached to the camera, or can we just w...

Stunning work.

And Siggraph..... Wish I could go this year, but the economy thingy has put a lock on my wallet I'm afraid. Would love to go there, as it is in New Orleans as well.

Re: And for the UNBELIEVABLE news..

Opera??? Aren't they the guys responsible for not having a internet browser in Win7 when it comes out in Europe?? The ones that hope it will help them gain market share, like from .5% to 1%?? Hey, at least it's 200%!!!! Sorry, couldn't resist :p But to chime in on the website thingy, all's well and ...

Re: Ctrl.Occlusion makes XSI crash

Are you sure that shader is still working properly for 7.5? It's a tad old and the error message suggests it's doing something in MR that's not working properly (anymore). Do you really need the ctrl version, or can you just do the AO with the built in shader in XSI. Did you try to see if that one c...
