Re: From Softimage to Blender (2019)
I was reading the comments on the XSI Theme and some comments are valid. The reason for a dark grey UI is based on comments from users in production, facing long hours of work among their peers. A light color UI stand out among the crowd and bring complaints from the people around you because your ...

Re: Introduction to rigging xsi
Yes. Basically the universal workflow is this: Software V: modeling, UV's, shading, texturing, etc (mesh and materials) Software X: rigging, animation, simulations, etc (rigs and animation) Software Y: import Alembic/Cached animation, lighting, lookdev, render, etc (lighting and rendering) Software ...

Re: Introduction to rigging xsi
Interpolation of rigs between any 3D software is more often a no go. FBX workflow needs rigs that would be compatible with game engines (few drivers, or no drivers, baked keyframe transform data, no lattices, etc) - like 150 bones max limits, limit 8 bone influences per vertice, etc. Also try keep p...

Nice one. Now it can be integrated anywhere. It's better than Bullit, right?

Re: Introduction to rigging xsi
I like rigging in Blender. Other than the driver workflow (SI is so much better) - it's nice and easy. Bendy bones and the IK system is easier to use than Softimage (but less control). The only thing lacking is ICE rigging systems, through nodes.. which kiiinda can be done (not very optimized) with ...

I like Unreal Engine and their philosophy more than Unity anyway.

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018
Yes.. it's still pretty much broken. The tweak feature has been replaced by box select, so it won't move the tool with the same button as activating it. Apparently you still need an alternate mouse button/tweak to run a tool - which is bollucks. Hope it can be the one and the same soon.
Re: Tutorials
I have a bunch of them on harddrive. I have the intro to Softimage already online. If you want, PM me and I'll pass on the link to watch them.

Great concept! And nice work. It would be terrifying to bring in an asteroid. If something goes wrong, we would go through another extinction event!

Yeah, the educational license will put out files with that stamp saying it's the student version. Curious, where did you download the educational license? As far as I know it's impossible now....

Re: Blender 2.8 Industry standard keymap
Really interesting their studies. Hope they implement it. I've been trying to help out Bforartists to get most of those standards going - each software is so different, it's hard to say what is standard. Their "Commonality" approach is nice though.

Very nice! The caustics are quite well done. What settings did you use? Did it use the denoiser?
