Only used it for modeling (96 hours so far), counted 3 crashes, all after applying Apply Thickness op (1 hang caused file corrupt)

Re: Autodesk, Pixar and Open Subdivs
This tech is cool because
a) its open
b) its fast
But If you want to make it usable, speak with Foundry (Mari) /other vendors. This subdivs must be implemented across all softwares otherwise it's useless.

Re: need better topology
Yes op listen to spooky,
you need a solid foundation in subd modelling, getting the principles of it like inserting holes, poly flow etc, not fixing bugs on bad model.

Re: holes in a surface
I usually model 1-4 holes depending on pattern, duplicate polys and snap & move with help of temp pivot, weld boundary vertices, then again with bigger chunk duplicate, snap, move, weld, and so on...and with final shape apply thickness

Well thats bit sad release, but to be honest, if I would judge software lifetime from new stuff presented, I say all of 3 all dead ;)

Re: Modo 701 around the corner
Thats is the way software should evolve
although this over confident guy speaking is annoying as hell, I assume level of fanboyism among modo users is on par with LW/blender community

Mari is awesome tool, just ended trial period and started saving money, too bad foundry pricing is so high (for me at least..)

opencl is not amd 'thing', and it was created by apple not amd. It's open framework just like opengl, maintaned by khronos. Unlike directx and cuda which are closed frameworks that run on single system (windows) or graphic card (nvidia) Obviously each vendor needs to write own drivers for it, just l...

Re: Another 3dsmax sneak peak
Hmm 3d max is dead since version 8, that means no serious dev for last 7 years and its still used, so I think you're overracting. They're only lucky cause of plugin developers. Besides viewport upgrade that doesnt work there were no changes to the "CORE"
