Re: Softimage to Bforartists

Just a question here, but did you contact the Blender guys on this?
You have some good ideas, and they're looking for SI people for input and more.
Maybe you can get some promoted into the developer stack there....

Re: Daes exist a plug in that visualize laser scan point cloud?

Not entirely sure what you're looking for, but most laser scan equipment comes with software to load the pointcloud and export it to formats 3D apps understand.

I'm pretty sure Softimage + the Mootzoid tools can import some of the data exported.

Hope this makes sense.

I thought the same until I saw its true capabilities. So I don't complain about its UI anymore because there is no other app out there to do the same for me. Only Autodesk acquisition would stop Zbrush :))
Why would they? AD has the wonderful Mudbox, and it's future is bright!! =))

Re: Trouble installing SI 2015

So... In the end something was wrong with your Windows installation......
Be sure to check any updates on those Redist installs, or other things might break.

But good to see you're finally up and running with Soft. ;)

Re: Trouble installing SI 2015

You forgot to mention the C++ redist 2012 errors in your first post...... Unless you give the error codes, and links to stuff you did try (e.g. AD forums) we cannot help. Again, ANY errors regarding things like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software are a tell-tale something is off with your Windows installati...

Re: Trouble installing SI 2015

The installer will check the versions, and just continues if the correct files already exist afaik. Fiddling with the setup.ini isn't a proper way of fixing stuff imho. ANY errors regarding things like HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software are a tell-tale something is off with your Windows installation. Unles...

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

Ah... Snapping.... One of my many annoyances in Blender. I do like certain aspects of Blender, and can see progress for the near future of many parts in Blender. But the 'We're doing it differently because Blender' can get up your nerves quite quickly, and has slowed down the adoption of Blender for...

Re: Blender 2.80 to arrive in 2018

I don't know; wasn't there a lot of people already who have written blogs and made videos about how to make blender UI better(*)? --- * better is subjective and can be a matter of opinion and a person's personal background. Well.... Apparently they finally start listening.... Or admit some ways are...

Re: Where can you still buy Softimage?

You - might - get a SI license when starting a Maya or Max subscription, if you're still lucky enough to get one from AD somehow. Reselling of a software license is tricky at best with all the EULA's, local laws and such. I can recall a lengthy trial in the EU court about this, as some of the US rul...

Re: What are you working on?

Yeah, closeups is where it falls apart. I also tried creating noise based "cloud alpha's" with these setups, to make it more fractal-ly, so the closeups would hold up better. I think with setups like this you get only so far, and at some point you have to start working with volumes. Which clouds are...

Re: What are you working on?

I see.
I have done something similar in the past, but added some additional 3D noise to the mix.
Never rendered with SSS though, it does look a lot better that way ;)

And the 'visible earth' website is the bees knees for textures :)

cheers!

Re: MX_Roundish Can't find it anywhere.

If you get the code gibberish, it means your browser doesn't understand the .addon format, as it is partly xml in the header.
Just right-click, or use something else to download the file. ;)

Re: Unreal Engine for free

Yes, there are some hard transitions from DOF to no DOF. I have no idea if this is a limitation of the Editor, or just something that was not set for the captures.

Re: Standalone SI help please

Maybe someone can help you out converting it to FBX or alike, so you can pick it up in say Blender?
(re)using Softimage right now may not be the best way of starting in 3D again....
