Re: S-USD
And on that point, although there was likely no internal "public consultation" prior to making these decisions, I personally wonder if there was ANY opposition to "XSI supression" from the inside (?) Nevertheless, nice to see you around here regardless ! :ymsmug: Just so we're c...
Re: S-USD
It looks like both addons require the same pre-compiled library, but with different versions. The S-USD loads first and loads the required library. Then Sycles loads, sees that the required library is already loaded and tries to use it, but it requires a different version and fails. Both addons are...

Re: Staying in touch...
am I correct that discords can vanish even quicker than forums, and they are not archived anywhere like on the wayback machine. Everything is a discord nowdays, but they're also a mess and ephemeral.

Re: LightWave Digital acquires LightWave - (A New Hope for SI?)
This reminds me of the two enthusiasts who bought Electric Image from their owner back in 2009 hoping to continue it. Former employees had also bought and tried to restart Mirai around those years. It both cases it worked for a couple of years and then quietly died.

Re: YouTube: The Complicated Story of Softimage
I enjoyed sharing links to that Softimage video. Although it has no reference to Softimage, here is in exchange another cool video I found, about the history SGI "Flame" is technically Softimage's cousin (founders of Discreet were Softimage co-founders, and both were in Montreal) https://w...

Re: YouTube: The Complicated Story of Softimage
Second doc on Softimage on youtube where they say Softimage was "passed to various owners around like a hot potatoe", imho an exaggeration, given that Avid owned it for 10 years.
but this one is pretty well-made.

Re: Strange Error, CrossOver Collada is missing!
Is it called CrossOver? I think it was called Crosswalks. If you had to run runonce.bat a few month ago to run XSI, then something probably had broke your instalation, like one of those damn registry cleaner. runonce would have fixed XSI, but it might have fixed crosswalk, because that's a separate ...

Re: Ice Performance in 2014 SP2 approx 20% better than 2015 SP2
There are a lot of bug fixes between 2014 and 2015, perhaps some for correct evaluation that might cause lower performance, so I wouldn't necessarily trust an older version as being "right". That said, if it works for you, it works. Use whatever gets the job done.

that is the correct answer. I checked the code (after searching the doc returned nothing)

The people that made Sibelius were fired soon after Sibelius was absorbed into Avid (to go with their ProTools line). Those people are NOW working for Steinberg...the makers of Cubase. What happened during 1998-2006 was that Avid was growing and investing and getting into consumer Audio (m-audio, S...

Actually, Softimage was looking to buy a game engine as late as 2007. One acquisition candidate was Shark 3D.
It was part of a proposal to pivot the company into the game middleware business.

Re: Yeah!! Hail to Softimage, winner of three awards at VES ...
Well, I regret posting what I did, and I would like to apologize. But the way the feedback-loop with Softimage is painted here is not really how I remember things. In 15 years of XSI, clients did not communicate through Autodesk policies and red tape. We had a beta forum opened year-around, users wr...

Re: Yeah!! Hail to Softimage, winner of three awards at VES ...
This is an old thread from 2014. I'm having trouble figuring out what it was about and what my quoted comment was meant to say. I think there was a thread at the time on the XSI mailing list where people were criticizing us for not doing fixes outside of ICE. I meant to say here that we did continue...
