Re: Autodesk retires Softimage
I've already switched to maya and actually find it better in many ways. Its nice to use a program thats being actively developed. But fuck autodesk for stringing softimage users on forever.

Re: Arnold texture cache not working correctly?
textures tab in render settings has all your settings. Only time I think it wont render some textures is when you have reject non tiled images on in settings. Anyways the mipmapped texture cache doesnt seem to be working. I'm in the process of moving to maya anyways.

Arnold texture cache not working correctly?
Can anyone confirm that the texture cache for .tx mipmap textures is not working with sitoa softimage? I did a test in maya and softimage with 88 8k textures. In softimage it will not render unless you either set the texture cache to 20GB or let it load up into ram without the cache. The reason bein...

Re: Mudbox at 10$/month
Would someone care to elaborate on what it was they were trying to in Mudbox. It would be interesting to know what led people to be so negative about it. Mudbox has excellent true 3D sculpting and painting abilities, both of which are vastly underrated by many people. And it's actually used very ex...

Re: Arnold Q&A
Thanks that confirms my findings. Linear division seems to be the only imperfect solution for these situations. Is there any way to get a good result out of arnold for this kind of situation? Mental Ray's fine displacement seems to do a better job with this :( http://imageshack.com/a/img849/2131/qnq...

Re: Arnold Q&A
Here's an image showing the displacement problems. Whats the best option to map displacement for something like this. So far it seems its best to set subdivision type to linear, and just live with the stretching. There seems no way to map a subdiv wall tho without uv smoothing ruining everything. An...

Re: Arnold Q&A
Does arnold have a way to displace geometry that is not a subdiv surface? It seems you cant use it for displacement on regular polygon models. I'm finding it difficult to near to impossible to make something as simple as a brick wall with displacement due to subdiv texture warping and the lack of re...

Re: Fighting the depression
They wont kill maya. They actually develop features for maya still. You know when autodesk is killing off its programs, the dev moves overseas and the new features stop.

Re: Fighting the depression
Already began relearning Maya. I havent touched it since version 4 or 5. I have to say though while somethings clearly are painful there are a lot of things we begged forever in softimage that are in maya. Time will tell how much I hate this but there are some positives and there is a huge negative ...

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage
What proprietary Autodesk IP? They didnt do shit to the program the entire time they had it.
Take the viewcube out, hq view out, send to mudbox, the camera sequencer and none of us will know the damn difference.

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage
So we're all moving to Maya? Will Autodesk cancel it in 2 years too? Are they going to lie to their customers while they phase it out of development too? Theres no way 3dsmax is going to survive this. Softimage will ALWAYS be a legendary brand worth remembering. Autodesk however has increasingly bec...

Re: Autodesk retires Softimage
What pissses me off the most, is that Autodesk has been lying to everyone for 3 versions now... (4 this year). This was always the plan. They didnt respect the customer enough to tell them their product would not be developed further, instead they told us development was moving overseas and told us ...
