Unified Sampling + FG for Rendering Interiors?
Hi, After a long leave from hobbyist CG activities, I wanted to take XSI out for a spin again. I suppose I will not have to worry about keeping up with new feature for too long :p =(( But anyway, after being heckled by the importon + FG problem, I started wondering about unified sampling. I do not u...

Re: SOFTIMAGE|UeberTage 2012 Friday, September 28th 2012
The thing that the V-ray guy mentioned (Softimage is a complete production solution, not a particle simulation tool) is the biggest message of the day, I would say. I have an idea. Perhaps next time members can wear their forum IDs like a badge or something? Otherwise you could be standing beside a ...

Re: Problem with Non-US Keyboard Layout
Very interesting (ja, natürlich spreche ich deutsch :P) So, I have found this handy map of all virtual codes on a German keyboard: http://www.rsbasic.de/screenshots/973640598127.png But the big difference is the modifier keys. Softimage does not recognize VK_LMENU and VK_RMENU. Instead, both of thes...

Re: Problem with Non-US Keyboard Layout
Seems like Softimage has its own internal keystroke detection system, which works at such a low level, that remapping keystrokes using some Windows application has no effect on it. I can remap Alt+F4 and that can shut Softimage down, probably because it receives TERM signal from its parent, but insi...

Re: Problem with Non-US Keyboard Layout
I really do not want to get rid of this keyboard. I love it totally. Using two keyboards is such a pain.
But thank you very much for the response. Now I know it is not gonna work. That helps too.

Re: Problem with Non-US Keyboard Layout
But that is the point! If I want to do the work manually, still I can't if the correct layout does not show up in the keyboard mapper. Seems like the software is explicitly coded to display US layout only and nothing else!

Re: Problem with Non-US Keyboard Layout
Vielen Dank für die prompte Antwort, wie immer!
So there is no way to even reprogram the shortcuts so that I could use them with a German keyboard? I do not mind if a couple shortcuts change here and there.

Problem with Non-US Keyboard Layout
Hello! For a long time I have not posted anything! Seems like Softimage has undergone some changes. I live in Germany nowadays, and for many reasons, I need to use a German keyboard with my PC. As all shortcuts default to the US keyboard layout, a lot of them no longer work. I cannot seem to get Sof...

How to assign random textures to clusters?
Hi fellas! I often come across situations where I have to texture a tree and all leaves are just one object. I can detach all polygon islands, select them at random, assign materials, etc. but that seems like a very unsophisticated approach. If I can assign every polygon island as a separate cluster...

Re: noob at HDRI rendering :S
I don't think you need exposure control here. What Simple Tone Mapping is doing, you can also do in Photoshop later on. Now you can give the chair some good materials. Steel and plastic both heavily rely on reflection maps, so it will show off the HDRI. To easily make steel, use mia_material with Io...

Efficient way of HDRI matching
Hello guys, I am back with another lame question! :P I downloaded a free HDRI for a fall colour road shot from here: http://www.openfootage.net/?p=188#more-188 When I load it up in XSI, the render does not focus on the road, but on some roadside grass. After rotating some, I can see the road, but it...

Re: Intancing MR proxy with ICE
Oh, my last response was probably my lamest ever :P I completely failed to realize what you were saying. But when I replace Simulate Particles node with Simulate Rigid Bodies node, two bad things happen. First, instead of considering the neutral poses I set for the leaf objects, the simulation syste...

Intancing MR proxy with ICE
Hello brothers (and sisters)! I was trying to create a fall colour road. Before beginning the actual task, I was simply testing how MR proxies look like when instanced through ICE. After taking some really crude test renders with PhysicalSun, seems like they are colliding with each other, even thoug...

Re: Object turning to dust
Seems like Lagoa is coming out on the end of September! Can't wait! Yes, about this particular style of simulation, it is relatively easier to get away with things, because gravity is essentially the only driving force here. But say, there is a lump of sandy clay or something and slowly it is decayi...

Re: Object turning to dust
I understand the drifting part alright. But if particles keep drifting, the actual chunk of rock or whatever should keep diminishing/decaying. How do I take care of this slowly decaying object? It should have a definite body, a surface that shows. In the vimeo example, they just all fall down and a ...
