Auro
(event graphics, fluids / simulation, motion/broadcast)

An ident to raise awareness of Barco Auro 11.1, a next generation £D sound system currently being introduced into cinemas across the world. It will be used to promote the product to businesses but also feature at the beginning of feature films being shown in the Auro format.

The concept was to take the viewer on a journey through a soundscape – from the subtlety of a fluttering hummingbird to a giant thundering overhead storm.

We used SoftImage and ICE for the particle systems, composited in After Effects. We also rendered out a 3D stereoscopic version for 3D cinema screens.

Lumiere were commissioned to create a 1-minute animation that conveys the brand essence of an intravenous iron therapy developed by Takeda for the treatment of anaemia. The starting point was a series of static images conceptualised by Saatchi and Saatchi Health, featuring dynamic figures emerging from ‘iron’-like particles to express the strength, flexibility, and freedom that the product affords patients.

In production, 3D models were built and animated in Softimage and then converted into a forming and deforming “skin” of particles using Softimage’s ICE system. Additional cloud particles were then created in ICE with Mootzoid’s emFluid and emFlock plugins used to control their movement. The resulting renders were then brought together in After Effects and layered up to produce the final film.

“The live action footage of our hero was separated by the 2D team in order that it could be placed over and integrated with our CG rocket train, with contact shadow passes provided. The final shot of the rocket part bouncing out of shot over the sand was done across Maya and XSI. Maya rigid bodies was used for the simulation, with ICE used in XSI for the interaction with the ground.”
