Yes, Mark does have the same role as me and we both work within the same the internal organisation - Sales & Services, and the Media & Entertainment sub division of that.
Our role is essentially pre-sales, to help and assist the sales teams, both internal and external, i.e. Autodesk's sales channels. The role is very similar in other software vendors and has had many titles, Application/Solutions Engineer, Application Specialist, etc, etc. Within Autodesk, the role is refered to as Technical Specialist, though some people do use other titles depending on their location, etc. Personally I've never favoured the "evangelist" title because it can kinda give people the wrong idea and some can take what you say as some forward thinking statement.
There are a number of us Tech Specialists, dotted around across many countries. I'm one of a team of seven and we're always doing various activities. So if you don't hear from anyone in a while, its most probable that it's because people are just busy. With Mark being a very known and visible face of Softimage, past and present, it's perhaps more visible when he's not around.
As for things like events, well they can be of various types. Some are hosted by Autodesk, some by reseller, others are just sponsored by Autodesk and we might have a presentation slot. The recording of these events can often come down to whoever is hosting them, the facilities, equipment, and if they have permissions from whoever might be presenting.
