For once I totally overslept... :ymblushing:
I am, however, impressed! ;)

Could someone "in the know" perhaps elaborate on "Softimage Composite"?
Is this a long overdue update of the good old FXTree or is it new/other technology altogether?

Nope, nothing special.

It's the unsellable and rebranded Toxic, now also known as Maya Composite and MAX Composite.

But no worries, the FXTree isn't going to dissapear any time soon ;-)

@hirazi

...no, as far as I know, it is the formerly known "toxic" that is implemented as a standalone software into the SI release.

cheers,
oliver

just to add something, i've used Toxic once and see it in action, its really an outstanding compositor wich was usual to cost a lot, it has one of the most powerfull keyer (wich if i'm not wrong is the same of flame inferno).
Its more than welcome!

Regarding the release, its simply stunning, lagoa is incredible, and i love the interface work, great job guys, viewcube is funny :)

Toxik was a good product, so its good to see it still continue in another guise.

It's a very solid product and you can comp in Stereo, so now that Maya and Soft have stereo you can output your rendered frames very easily. Also Toxik has vector paint, which was one of the cool features of Combustion, so you're getting something pretty good overall.

WoW! This is a really impressive subscription release, especially for it not even being a full version. My renewal for my subscription is coming up beginning of October - this definitely makes me want to renew it. I have to say, even if you would take Lagoa and Polygonizer out of the mix, there are still some extremely nice additions that are worthy of a .5 release all in their own. I am excited to see Softimage Composite, New Shaders, and others. This to me feels like a full version release! So, with that said - you guys just raised the bar on yourselves to out-do all of this come Softimage 2012 ;).

-Great Job Guys!-

...but do you think this means SI2011.5 gets it's own Virtual IBC presentation?

Anyhow, where is the mention of Eric Mootz in the press release? While Thiago Costa obviously deserves the most attention, implying (by omission) the Polygonizer isn't also "bought" technology seems a bit strange...

But like I said before: impressive nonetheless... :D

Definitely watch all of the videos. I made my first post before watching the videos and only in relavence to the documented information that has been given. The videos are awesome!!! I really like the advancements made in the overall UI and module ICE mode, really nice.

In fact, I watched all of the videos, well most, of what is being presented at IBC, and I have to say that Max, Maya, and Softimage all got a nice beef up...makes me want to buy all 3. It is nice to see such great advancements all around. Now if Softimage only had an ICE CAT like setup or iRay in 2012 - I would pretty much be set. Awesome stuff!!!
