Making a terrain: How can I align trees with the ground

Post by ChrisWhatever » 27 Jul 2010, 22:37

Hello,

for a tutorial using Mod Tool Pro 7.5 I want to distribute a couple of trees on a terrain.

This is what I have so far:

I duplicated the trees randomly using a script. Is there a better way? Something like a tree brush I haven't found yet?

Is there a good way to align the trees with the ground without having to move each tree separately?
I tried the Align Objects-tool but that seems to align only the bounding boxes of the objects.

Thanks for your help, it is much appreciated :)

There are numerous ways to approach this, but the easiest way often is the usage of someone else's plug-in.
I don't know how the Mod Tool reacts to plug-ins but here are two you might try:
The Duplicator by Felix Gebhard, a "Compiled operator to randomly distribute objects across a surface". This is for 32 bit only...

And/or the ICE Compound "Distribute instances on surface" by Michele Sandroni that is available in this compound collection

I haven't tried any of them myself, I'm afraid... ;)
Stay safe, sane & healthy!
