This was an image i was itching to do for a long time, so i took the three Japanese cars I had done in XSI and put them into one Uber image.
Done in Softimage 2011 with mental Ray.
Any crits & comments are welcome...

Re: Three's Company
Very, very nice work, man! I like the look and hyperreal mood!
The only thing for me is, that it all looks a bit to orthographic to me...
cheers,
oli

Re: Three's Company
nice render, lovely studio light setup.
also to make a nice look you could add a bit of flare/bloom to the hightlights like with in PS or After effects.
overall though awesome render.
take it your using the arch viz material?
HDR?
cheers

Re: Three's Company
Hey everyone, thanks for the comments..
Most of the materials are the arch shader, the car paint shader is slower to render in my experience but in this instance for that metallic flaky look i chose it over the arch shader for the car paint...
The lighting setup is actually very simple. At first I had just one spotlight facing downwards to illuminate the moody scene, but found that the gtr was too bright and the others just didn't have enough fill hitting the sides, so i deleted the middle one and made two spots pointing at the outer cars. The spill over from them was enough to adequately light the gtr...It took ages to render as does anything with mental ray, but in it's defense there were three hi-res cars render at 4k.
I used a custom made hdr to do the reflections and fill bounce...

Re: Three's Company
I like the coloring effect in the headlights. Is that inside the shader, or PS touches.
Just out of curiosity, can you show the hdr.
Excellent render.

Re: Three's Company
The polarized lens effect i made as a separate pass in xsi and screened it over the render, the lights reflect certain colours at certain angles with incidence etc... The hdr is what you'd expect in a studio hdr - Blacks and whites with gradients, i just tweaked it in photoshop to get it sitting nicely...

Re: Three's Company
Thanks,
I rendered the cars separately to the background. I also rendered out separate channels such as specular, reflection and diffuse so i could screen them over the original to punch it out a bit, and the usual exposure/levels adjustments...
