How to -precisely- post the forum thumbnail preview at the top bar?

Hello community friends. After 20 years, I've armed myself with enough courage to ask if someone kind enough could help me like a 5 yo kid who's crossing the street for the first time, TO CORRECTLY POST IMAGE THUMBNAILS at the top of the forum?
How to -precisely- post the forum thumbnail preview at the top bar?

The gallery at the top of the forum is something the team decides upon... I think currently it's rray's responsibility...

oh? ... so it takes the posted picture, but the admin decides to select it, then by code, it compress and adapts the image, with clickable option?

I'm not 100% sure how it works at the moment, as it has become rray's responsibility, I think, after the "big forum update" some months ago,
but when I was still responsible the following happened. I picked an image of the thread I wanted to highlight. Scaled or cropped it to get a thumbnail and uploaded this thumbnail to our ftp-server.
We have a script running that takes the following info from a text file: thumbnail-name, "hover-on" text and thread address and displays it on top of the forum with the correct link...

That's how it works with the new forum too.

if you have a suggestion, just post it here or write a pm to HB, owei or me and one of us will make a thumbnail and upload it and have it link to the thread, presumed the art is not too hideous

For extra convenience you could directly send a thumbnail with the pm (ca. 128x128 pixel should work fine)

Oh my... so it is a process that still requires MANUAL work?
Thank you, all the more, admins! This I was not expecting.
There are some communities out there that have that automatically implemented (pick a thread, searches for pics, posts resized thumbnail to top bar).

Yes all manual I mean it's total 5 minutes of work per month or so. (It wasn't worth creating a special form which would've taken one or two hours probably)
