Grasshopper (phymateus)

Post by a5' » 05 May 2010, 16:09

I hope that this isn't a double post but I was over in compositing to answer more or less a specific quesiton.

I would like to get some feedback for the work in progress.

Quick rundown: Realistic grasshopper, very exotic, very colorful, one reference image for the specific one I'm trying to do, hand painting textures (little texture experience) _first in GIMP now in XSI Illusion (FX viewer), hopefully I can eventually animate it, having difficulty currently with the textures but before that I had trouble modeling the hind legs. "grasshopper legs". Also the 'root' of the wings has been giving me much trouble. Most of the shapes (oraganic I guess) are not simple.

I had a question that I posted about Illusion in the compositing forum there is the one reference image there (from a insect book)

any help welcome/appreciated.

thanks,

a5'

here's where I'm at;

Redid the hind legs and the wings (they are small),

starting to shape up-- trying to control the urge to jump around-from textures to materials to bones.

long shot for proportion::

more minor improvements, I am having trouble getting a nice jpg up here. I guess I don't know how to set the quality in si, so I brought it into gimp as a tga and saved it from there.
