Rendering Hair from curves problem

I'm attempting to uv map hair made from curves. I'm using barametric uving as described here: http://softimage.wiki.softimage.com/xsi ... edHair.htm

However, what ever i try i cannot get Barycentri C / Spline Hair Interplonat to give me any value other than 0 using Arnold or Mental Ray. (does it still work on 2015?)
