Indeed...
The Third Party Rendering feature is added to Houdini Indie’s already rich feature set at no extra cost.

Good news, very generous and fair offer from SideFX :-bd
Now there is only this resolution limit left...

The restriction still isn't that bad, 1920x1080 - standard for television no?

They clearly are groundbreaking.

As said, 1920x1080 limit is only for sequences. Should be possible to overcome this by rendering in pieces and multiple cameras, where each camera has shifted 'screen window' - equivalent to SI 'optical center shift', at least if there is no some exotic camera distortion. Or, to force Houdini somehow, to repeat the single frame rendering (which then probably includes re-evaluation of entire scene for each turn).
Didn't tried any of these workarounds yet, to be honest. Used H for stills, where resolution is unlimited. But memory of my machine wasn't, so, let's say 32 gb of RAM is a good start for anything ambitious in H, like heavy simulation, rendering a lot of displacement or hair, so on.
Smart move, by the way.

As a Redshift user, that's a good news! :-bd
Soon, with the same RS license, we'll render in Softimage, maya and houdini.
The limitations are very acceptable, IMHO

Holy <bleep>,

We asked for this a while ago, and they responded in kind. :D
I truly hope this will bring Houdini into more freelancer and small company places. They deserve the seats.

Whomever is responsible for this, a MASSIVE thanks for this. Best cheque I will be sending out this year! :)

Virtual beers to the Houdini team! :ymparty:

And another one from practical side. While Indie license is rental, it perfectly works offline. That is, no need to have a connection to internet for everyday use. In such case, it's only an automated process of supplying the MAC address and getting the keys, only when renewing the license or getting one for new version. Let's say one or two times yearly there's real need to communicate with Side Effects, and all that worked smoothly, here.

So for $199 per year, I get Houdini Indie + Arnold + Redshift + Vray + Renderman at no exta cost for the renderers ?

No, the renderers themselves will cost you extra.
You will have to buy a separate license of your preferred external renderer for Houdini Indie I presume.
The ability to use external renderers in Houdini Indie however is an added feature that doesn't cost you extra...

If only SideFX were to introduce a (non-commercial?) perpetual license option for Houdini Indie as well... :ympray: :-

Hopefully in the future Houdini will also have more modeling and animation tools.

I would change Max/Maya for it.

Yes they need to fix usability if they want "artists" inside.
