Maya extension 2
Looks like Autodesk implemented match transform and render passes from XSI, and also looks like Maxon is gonna have a very rough time against Maya this year.
What do you guys think of the new .5 Maya?

Humility(or desperation?) of Maya going to the Mograph stuff always despised by the elite...
This is something that ICE should have got from day one. But of course that was going too low for the aristocrats...
Btw does MASH can hookup with sound? Sorry no time to see the videos. If not it is just something not even half way finished.

Personally I've found the selection and modeling tools amazing. Finally they work as they are supposed to, like Softimage!

They improved a lot, but I still dislike Maya UI. It's prettier, but the workflow is still the same.myara wrote:Personally I've found the selection and modeling tools amazing. Finally they work as they are supposed to, like Softimage!
Yes, you can hook up audio. But I still dislike Maya attribute manager with loads of tabs.Bullit wrote:Humility(or desperation?) of Maya going to the Mograph stuff always despised by the elite...

Re: Maya extension 2
Well, comparing c4d and Maya, for me is like a nicely designed passenger plane against Borg cube, or exactly a Borg cube recently painted in nice colors of some popular airline. I'd prefer Borg's vehicle, because of power and chance to find some interesting tech to play with, I'd be ready to forget the design, but, I think 95% of c4d users won't. It's not about this or that feature, it's about habits and simplicity of c4d.
Ironically, people who don't have experience with building deformations in ICE, Python scripting or more than five years of experience in something comparable, I'm afraid they won't be able to get from all that Maya solvers and plugins, anything more than appropriate plugin for Max or c4d. So, there is a kind of Silo X for modeling, Mograph X for motion graphics, so on.
Anyway nice that they are still working on interaction, selections and such.

I think for your Mathaeus, the perfect tool was Softimage with Houdini in a close second.
I consider myself on the other side, more of an artist side that don't care much about more in-depth technical stuff. At the same time, AD is marketing Maya as more user friendly and more of a generalist tool instead of a more TD centric weapon. That's why I was comparing it with C4D.
If you think of Softimage, it had the perfect balance. It was "easy" for common artists while enabling you to go super tech/deep/whatever. The organization of the UI was really great and I wish Maya is going in that direction. But I feel there's some work to be done on that front if AD really wants to steal some C4D users, as it seems to want.

I think the reason is that the for 3D DCC creation is not increasing, for example Autodesk M&E revenue appears to not increasing for a long time. Maybe the only one that can smile comparatively in last year or so is Houdini but even then at their size.

Well, didn't really wanted to go into standard ''believing that sedative can turn into alternative'' story. One of two is EOL, another is.... Houdini, no one ever had enough users to made a significant change. i was thinking about Maya, and what this software was, and what it is today. From high end before ten years, complicated but original, full own solutions, remember when nucleus series started - to kind of Max, full of third party and unconnected plugins, which can animate but also have a f....ed up operator stack. At the end of the day, it seems that only mr Yost of Max had a proper vision of well organized software, usable modifiers and such, twenty years ago.MauricioPC wrote:I think for your Mathaeus, the perfect tool was Softimage with Houdini in a close second.
I mean, I can live with any of two, but, today, Max seems to be a (small) winner in that M-M competition, imho.

I wonder how many managers Maya had since Autodesk take over to have such a disjointed development.
For now Bifrost seems to almost doing a Lagoa.

I agree! The modeling improvements are really nice, and to be honest, I really had no idea how many things did not work well before i.e. thickness and beveling. These additions definitely make Maya start to feel more like Softimage for modeling. I hope they continue to always enhance the modeling features.myara wrote:Personally I've found the selection and modeling tools amazing. Finally they work as they are supposed to, like Softimage!

Re: Maya extension 2
Unless they added the stability of SI regarding modeling in Maya, I'll stick to SI for all my modeling purposes.
Modeling in Maya 2016 is a crash fest, and unusable imho.
But these additions look good, Maya is becoming bearable for a full days use and go home still sane.

Any news about Bitfrost ? the development seems slowed down to a minimum now.
Do you guys think that's going to be pushed way further like deforming meshed etc like ice does ?

I haven't been able to play with it at all since the download is still not available for Maya with Softimage...
