Warning, it seems it has several severe bugs: https://forum.blackmagicdesign.com/view ... 24&t=38799

That's basically why most beta tests are closed affairs, I guess... :-?

Well this Beta seems like an Alpha.

But then again: only beta testers know what really goes on in a closed beta.
We'll never know how many bugs had to squashed during Softimage beta tests.
We only see the stuff they missed...

it wouldn't be called a beta if it was ready to be released

Speaking of semantics, giving it a new major version number is very misleading if the only real changes are a port to a new OS and a change to the UI.

Not saying it's not a big deal... It's a lot of hard work. But it's not really a new "major version" of the program. I didn't know a port to a new OS counted as a major version number for everyone else who already had it on Windows... More like "Fusion 7 for Mac" is now available...?

Indeed, they should at least have introduced a ViewCube and be done with it... :D

Maybe its because they were already at a high 7.7 version increment ?

And perhaps to have a nice (or nice sounding) round number as the first version on new platforms.

But it's easy to see how users on windows (almost all of their users) would see a major ver. increment without major features as not so good.

And it seems that it took all of their resources to make those other platform versions happen.

I don't know the circumstances, but perhaps they should have taken more time for it to be yet more finished with perhaps a few more new things before releasing?

Quite a shame though at least for the bugs (for now), Fusion is quite complete, capable, swift and cost effective

Hope it turns out okay
(pretty sure it will)

.. Yeah, Ver. 7 is quite capable. Use it all the time.

As this thread is, I suppose, a gathering of Fusion users and I don't want to open a new thread, a simple question. The classic FXTree sported some useful (to me) "Painterly Effects". Is there a way to get similar effects in Fusion 7?

Almost nothing of that, unless you want to re create something, using generic tools. By the way, if we are talking about free version, this one does not support plugins.

Where Fusion is probably interesting over FXTree, it is proper support floating point / hdr, let's say some complex comp of rendered open exr pics, full of transparencies, some cool glow or blur over all that. Free version also has masking, some paint, things like Primatte keyer - you want it for live footage. There's vector blur too, film grain, so on. Has a lot of 3d stuff, but, personally, I can't say anything about this part, never tried.

Just in 'crazy comp of hdr pics, for free' category, I'd feel more comfortable with Blender compositor, because of shader style nodes, allowing to combine the things in easier way. But, Fusion, even free, is much better balanced, complete, and faster.

AD Composite / Toxik is similar app, but never been so widely accepted, like Fusion was.
