Custom Display Host?
A fascinating part of our beloved Softimage to me has always been the Custom Display Host. I have never used it and have always wondered if and how it was actually put to use, presumably by studios who could afford some additional coders to guide the process. I’m curious, enlighten me.

Are you thinking of using it for 4K?

Maybe you can ask to Eric Mootz about it. He create one for emRPC4 plugin. http://www.mootzoid.com/plugin/emrpc4Hirazi Blue wrote:A fascinating part of our beloved Softimage to me has always been the Custom Display Host. Re: Custom Display Host?
it's nothing exciting, just a C++ API to parent a Win32 window underneath the viewport and receive scene change notifications. The documentation covers why you'd use it. It's been used by Big Japan Client to put their game engine in a viewport, just like our "fake" example in that web page.

Thanks for your reply. Does this mean that the CDH was a "special order" by this specific studio? ;)

I'm not sure if this one was a consulting request or an internal idea. It was developed by a games team developer. We also had to port it to linux years later for an Australian vfx studio.
