Hello,
I just realized an animated curtain with motion designer (.obj export + .mdd file), and retopologized it in softimage.
Now I would like to transfer the animation to my new mesh but don't know if it's possible.
Is there a new ICE challenge for me ?
Thanks

Re: Transfering .MDD animation
Could try a traditional cage deform first? There are a few ice equivalents, but if you freeze the envelope weights after applying then the basic built in tool is fairly fast.

I think Leonard Koch's LKSkinner would also work for this, see here http://leonardkoch.com/
"Usage: Create a simulated ICE tree on the »target« mesh, connect this compound. Connect the »source« object to the compound's deformers inputs. "

Re: Transfering .MDD animation
Try one of these. The simple one is probably fine for what you need. I'm using it for the exact same task as you describe. No need for simulation, you just need to have a static copy of the mesh in the scene.
If however you dont want to have a static copy hanging around in the scene then i'd say tough luck, grow up and stop being so babyish. No, I wouldn't say that , tempting as it may be. There is a way of doing it without the static mesh, but its a minor (2 min) hassle Setting attributes and freezing them into the mesh, but I never bother because apart from anything else, its quite nice for the mesh to have a little friend in the scene with lots of things in common.

Re: Transfering .MDD animation
ok so first tests :
- mattmos : the simple cage technique doesn't work for me.
- the LK skinner works perfect ! Then I export a new mdd file for the retopo curtain, and delete the old one. All is ok with that.
- the LK fabric tutorial shows a good technique for retopo, but doesn't work in this case because the used nodes doesn't support polymesh (nurbs only), and my imported curtain is polymesh....What a pity !
- Paul, at this time, your compounds made my XSI often crash. I plugged the animated mesh and the static one, but nothing happen but several crashes. I'll try to investigate to understand how it works.
Thanks again guys.

If you're using 2015, they wont work. Autodesk broke ICE
