Particle Morph - getting goal object form still in flight?

Post by Bullit » 13 May 2015, 22:58

I am trying to morph an object into another with particles in their surfaces only, but i need that they "acquire" the form of goal object progressively, maybe even while in flight. Any idea of what should i consider?

there was a tutorial, dont findt it anymore - there was some blending from one object to another. also the colors where changed on the fly.
maybe HB finds it!

but that could work: http://staplex.ru/?p=457

let the particles stick to emit location and it will do the trick.
+ a compound to evenly distribute on the geometry and it ll look beauty :)

Thanks i have to study the compound in that link you posted.

Sorry but in last two phrases i don't understand what you are saying .

since that is a geometry you morph with that compund, you have to emit the particles from that geometry.
I dont know what kinda look you need, but as far as I understood:

- morph the geometry from the first shape to the finale shape
- emit the points on the geomoetry
- let them stick to the emit position, so they should stick while the geometry is morping into the final shape

Thanks, understood now. I am afraid i will not have much flexibility to have the same topology in both objects.

yes, I had a similar problem and could fix it with shrinking a cube around the objects.
But its quite primitive. :)

I've already do this kind of things and the only real possibilities so far are:

1- As you found out: same topology, simple
2- point ID: you can remap the point iD to another one even if the count don't match, to do so you can create a second pointID, sorted, for example from left to right or inside to outside etc.
Then two possibilities... A: your target is short in point count than the source, simple do some math like a modulo on the point ID by the point count. B: the inverse harder but feasable because you know how much point you need, personally i've made some cloning in flight, this works...
3- emit the same number of particle on the two object as guides, so it's a very simple setup ;-)

or... go in houdini done in 20 minutes https://vimeo.com/112711809 and use alembic. PS:not really the same but impressive, i've made an exercise who consist of a simple vdb convertion of the two object then you can morph one object onto the second, on a real geometry, a 1 minute setup

I have had no time today.

I have made this setup ( rar file) earlier, but the question of acquiring the form still remains. Note that i have getting the color of goal object by the goal distance, it would be nice getting the form from same setup.
The whole thing only works for some reason with texture maps in each object.

Rename the texture maps like in the compound.
ObjectParticleMorph.rar
Edit:

How to use.

Get 2 objects, give a texture map to each. Get an empty point cloud. Connect the start object and the goal.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

hmm, not working for me...
the texture_map color is working and the compound gives me no error - but there is no morphing going on.
could you save an example scene?

It seems to not work with Frame Move Trigger in 1 or 2 frame. It needs a value 3 or more. Please check if that is the problem.
