why is that?
Softimage 2015 SP1 cannot co-exist with Softimage 2015. If Softimage 2015 is available on your machine, uninstall it before running the Softimage 2015 SP1 installer.

Bugs Fixed in this Release

Defect ID Description
SOFT-6353 Softimage Crash with ICETree accessing weightmap
SOFT-8176 Crash: Softimage crash when undo after editting in animation mixer.
SOFT-9632 'Save Scene' dialog opens when creating a new scene out of a new scene
SOFT-10242 [SOFT] FBX Merge / SendTo Update to Softimage wrongly creates new objects when there are multiple namespaces
SOFT-10255 Progressive rendering SDK attribute is not exposed the the Renderer Context
SOFT-10261 Tangency on Path constraint (path and param) broken for closed curves
SOFT-10262 Alembic: Blend port value is not taken into account when applying cache
SOFT-10264 Xray mode Regression 2015 - won't give selection priority to non geometry elements
SOFT-10267 Alembic: Bifrost mesh from Maya imported into Softimage doesn't have vertex color
Nice that there's a Service Pack, but didn't Softimage run multiple installations before?

Wow, Softimage 2015 is so stable and reliable already, that it needed only 9 bugfixes after 1/2 year. Impressive :-bd

Well I guess those guys didn't even had a bug list and had to fokus on softimage mailing list reports.

And because none of use cares too much anymore, there haven't been any bugs reported.

Just a wild guess ;)

As Autodeskian Hsiao Ming Chia has just now admitted there is a "patch installer" (the Maya way of SPs) available, one could conclude this "fully exclusive" full installer really only exists to annoy us...

Anyway i think I have send them 10 or 20 crash reports during this year. Anybody knows if those actually are read by somebody there or look at even?

Are those bugs really fixed anybody can confirm who installed SP1? What about addons, are deinstall removes addons or shall we install them again? Can´t remember how it was previuosly...

Hi Alen,
addons on softimage can be at multiples places
1. The install directory Addons Folder
2. The User Directory Addons Folder
3. The Workgroup directory Addons Folder

The uninstaller doesn't remove any addons for the 3 methods, but be aware than as softimage SP1 install in a program folder "Softimage XXX SP1" the addons previously installed in the application folder of 2015 won't be there, you will have to move it manually.

My advice, never install in the program folder, always install in a workgroup, eventually on the user folder, and when you are updating your softimage, just move your user folder from the previous directory to the new one, this will work and move all your prefs too

It's a difficult situation - Softimage 2015 is so buggy that almost nobody uses it and only a few bug reports are written. The poor guy who has to dig through tons of code to fix the bugs doesn't have any clue how it works, while the developers who know the code are now trying hard to make Maya the next-gen app that Softimage already is. I could laugh about it, if it wouldn't be so sad 8-x

Now now.. :p

2015 is reportedly quite stable, and apparently somewhat noticeably more efficient in the ICE (tree creation) side,

And devs know their way around at least enough to have covered 100's of all sorts of fixes in the 2015 (non SP) itself.
(and 2014 +SP's .. and 2013 + SPs ...)

Are you serious? Where do you get that information? I'm using 2015 and I would say it's more stable than 2014.

As long as we're playing the very vague "assessment game": in my experience 2015 is less stable than 2014 (but not much, I'd say),
I have had several crashes in 2015, where 2014 didn't crash that much.
Sadly, I wasn't able to reproduce, hence no bug reports (and no fixes, obviously).

I only have problems with 2015 with different render engines - but compared to 2013, it's.. MUCH more stable.. That's for sure, in my experience...

Ok, maybe I was shooting too quickly, but I was referring to this thread and while playing around with the new MR features in SI 2015 I got it to crash after only a few minutes.

For me, SI 2013 SP1 appeared to be much more stable than 2014 SP2. For my last project I had to do some ICE particle simulations including volume rendering with MR in SI 2014 and I had the feeling, that I triggered every possible bug related to this stuff. Particles falling through the surface, although I used the "Slide on surface" compound, "Filter by weightmap" ignoring my weightmap, frames rendered partially or completely black or red, flickering particles, cached particles looking different than simulated ones... it was really nerve-wrecking. No plugins were used, just built-in nodes/compounds. Opening those scenes in SI 2015 didn't change anything on that, strengthening my impression that SI 2015 is at least as buggy as 2014 SP2.

Anyways, Im happy to read, that some of you guys find SI 2015 more stable compared to 2014 and with the servicepack I will give SI 2015 another chance.
