Hi.
Is there a way to do this Xgen replication in ICE ? Perhaps a handy compound that does a similar thing driven by an image height map ?

lol yeah get texturemap > color to brightness > set size, or orientation or whatever you want... this is ICE 101
eg here is a tutorial that sets something up very similar - made over 3 years ago

Just to let you know: there is absolutely no reason to apologize for "101" questions!

Re: Xgen style in ICE ?
hey I did not have a problem with the question or answering, just stating a fact. Am also happy to help even with the 'basic' stuff. After all nobody is born with this information - everyone including the so called experts were a beginner at some point
so, Eugene, see how you get on with that tutorial video, if stuck or any further questions please do not hesitate to ask here.
one tip though when dealing with massive amounts of particles is that your viewport may struggle. either turn them to display points or set the percentage display in the viewport to a much lower percent. it will still render the full amount but will not struggle to display.
have fun!

Re: Xgen style in ICE ?
The first line in your post, before you added the video (which made your intention way clearer) sounded like a "RTFM" to me.
But I responded not to rebuke you, but to explicitely state there was no reason to apologize
as I do not want newcomers to be scared off...
;)

Re: Xgen style in ICE ?
sure, no worries Hirazi, I know you have good intentions for the newest members and yes my first post could of been interpreted as flippant and I was indeed going to link to the specific page in the manual but thought the tutorial was more appropriate.
back to the discussion at hand, please take a look at this thread here
https://www.si-community.com/forum/v ... hp?p=31899
where there is some discussion about dealing with high particle counts. back then it was 46 million - think I have done 80 million since then at some point...
