Tomas Pettersson and The Foundry

Post by pluMmet » 15 Nov 2014, 15:53

Sculptris has been my organic modeler of choice ever since Dr. Pettersson released it.

I was not sure what to think when he went to work with zBrush but I had my doubts and that turned out to be warranted.

It looks like he has left for greener pastures and has opened his brilliance up and I could not be happier.

So my last AD hold out (mudbox) can soon be replaced with this fine thing they are cooking.

Bright Future Ahead :ymparty:

Sorry, but it's too soon IMHO to judge this (the move, not the product) as a good or a bad thing. :-\

I understand that but the product I love was dead in the water while he was @ zBrush and now it's being advanced...

So what is with Colorway, hehehe... No word about this last new existing technology, new toys are there to replace it or what.
By the way can't load this video here, suppose it's part of fxguide article in 'love the Foundry' style. Hard to figure out what really is happening, except that some people changed the employer - and that the company have somehow smaller budget for acquisitions, than some corporation, frequently mentioned here on forum.... As Modo owner, I only hope, these new and exciting things will *not* be integrated into Modo, giving a chance to it, to became usable app for everyday work on things like tv commercials or archiviz.
Especially 'the future of 3d is 2d' idea, as entire article smells to this well know BS - again, really hope these new things will be separated from Modo, together with author of that idea. Well, hope dies last...

To put all of this (including the Foundry's acquisition of Mischief) into some perspective:
fxguide: What’s The Foundry buying? The Tech of ADF
Very interesting indeed.

But still: the Foundry, a company IMHO clearly wanting to be Autodesk when it grows up...
:-?

just reading the "taron" name is a fantastic thing... straight remembering what he did at the time of messiah (and past), and all people he inspired with his work

This mean a definitive stop to Modo sculpt module.

What I see is nice, but this didn't convinced me at all to abandon zbrush or anyway to consider adoption alongside zbrush
